What is the motorcycle of your dreams? Price is no object.

If money was no object, what motorcycle(s) would you want to own? For me it would have to be a Vincent Rapide, or a Brough Superior. Also, I'd like to own some historic bikes, like ones that belonged to : Pancho Villa, Evel Knievel, Lawrence of Arabia, Elvis, Bob Dylan, Steve McQueen, or maybe Peter Fonda's Captain America.

There's is actually based on a Schwinn Stingray. But, I am considering building one with 1 foot wide wheels. I have all the parts, but it's a matter of finding the time myself, or tricking the kids into doing it.

I'll do a slideshow of their projects one of these days. My oldest son swapped engines on my Bandit 600 this week. (The old engine had a fist-sized hole in it!) I have to do the wiring on my day off.

Oops, Already did about 90%. It was pretty straight forward, but if I wire the '79 Harley, I'll definitely do pics. It'll be pretty much from scratch. I may get to it in October. So you wire like the British.... Have you ever considered a career in electronic arson? (Or at least something where you spend all your time in the dark.)

I've accidentally done a little electronic arson once or twice, like when I tried to build a remote control minisub and it caught fire underwater. Had to take it home anyway, stunk up the car for three weeks...

My best friend's muffler fell off his car. Still hot, he threw it in the back seat. The car caught fire (almost burned down) and smelled smoky for months!

Dang, that sounds like something I would do without thinking. Speaking of mufflers, I need to get a new muffler for at least one of my cars, and I'm thinking of pulling one from a late model Trans Am. Can you think of any others that sound good from the factory?

I dunno. I'm not really a "sound" guy. I like it nice and quiet until I need performance. Then any decibel level (short of an F-16) is fine. Look into "cutouts". You can run them muffled or wide open.

Funny, I didn't even know my Merc had an exhaust note until I floored it once, then HOLY CRAP! The other car's muffler is so shot that I've practically got open pipes already. Unless I can find cutouts at the junkyard, I kinda doubt I'm getting them. What I'd really love would be to look under a car at the local u-pull-it and find a Cherrybomb.

I knew a guy who made his own cutouts (for a motorcycle). He used a nail and a pice of metal shaped into a "butterfly valve" when he gave it full throttle it opened automatically, giving it a vicious roar and quite a few more horses.

No, their pretty easy to put in. Although I'd see if I could make 'em removable. I think they might hinder the power on a small engine.

My dream bike would consist of a Cummins ISB Turbo diesel engine(old 12 valve) and it would have a super duty rear axle(to account for torque) and it would have Sportster Tires and a custom paint job. :) fun...

if price were no object, i would have a 3550 horse bike ... max speed probably being 375 or 400 .... 0 - 60 in 0.0012 seconds (with a switch in on position). switch off, and it would still have the horses and max speed, but slower acceleration (used for most riding). the on position would only be for racing. would also have a 30 gallon gas tank @ 50+ mpg. would use car tires (in order to provide stability at greater speeds; and for when there was snow on the ground i could use chains or snow tires (either) ... probably 17" tires. all of this with electric/kick start and automatic transmission (no shifting necessary). also would have CD/AM/FM/input for music; 14" amp and (4) 7" speakers. alarm (if someone tried stealing it) would be 165 decibel, would not shut off for at least 5 minutes (unless i pressed silence key on the remote). would have a motorcycle trailer to provide more cargo space. would also have a generator built into the trailer in order to power whatever i needed (travel for weeks at a time if i desire). the seat would never get too hot (from sun exposure) or freeze over (if it's too cold). with 1 button press (on remote), the bike would completely warm up and be ready to ride (no worrying about freezing handlebars or anything, would be thawed and nice temperature).

I'll have to agree with everything except the trailer. If I need storage, I'll probably just drive my truck. Also, I've seen the upper 130's to lower 140's on a bike, and I'll have to say 375 mph holds no interest for me. At that speed I'd feel like I needed a helmet, which kinda ruins the thrill.

i wasn't saying i was ever planning on going that fast, just wanted to see people's jaws drop when they see the speedometer etc. plus, i ALWAYS wear my helmet (it is the law)

Hey, that's a good idea. I have an old moped laying around. I might just put a 400 mph speedo on it! What state are you in? In AR, only riders under 21 have to wear a helmet. (But I wear one when I expect heavy traffic.)

The ultimate for me would be a 777cc custom super bike. Dark sky blue with silver racing stripes. Carbon fiber body and components. High efficiency ethanol burning V twin. Body would be of my own "retropunk" design. maybe I'll upload a sketch....

For an existing bike that crossover DN-01 thing Honda is making is pretty sweet, cept I'd paint it blue with silver racing stripes. http://powersports.honda.com/street/crossover.aspx

Latest model of the Kawasaki Ninja is a must as well.

Also historical bikes are a must. I just GOTTA get me one of those German WWII bikes with a sidecar (ala Last Crusade and Great Escape)

I'd probably only race my custom bike on private tracks, to many yahoos on the road... For road, I need my custom car: Carbon fiber frame and body. Body directly modeled after a 70's Corvette Stingray. Dark blue with silver racing stripes :D Of course I'd own an original, but the new one would be electric or hydrogen or something like that, as I couldn't bear to cannibalize an old one...

I once saw a concept bike called a Vindian. It was a (replica) of a stripped down Chief, with a Vincent Black SHadow engine. I'm not really into bastardized classics, but that was awesome.

Yeah, I prefer restoration, too, but as long as nothing irreversible is done, I love cutsomized classics. That Vindian sounds pretty cool. I saw some Vincent Black Shadows and some Radpides (spelling?) at a show the local British club put on last year. Way cool bikes.

How about copying, lately a lot of interesting bikes are coming out of the woodwork here as the petrol prices put more on them, yesterday the oddest convoy passed, a 125cc scooter followed by a fireblade, another scooter, then at the very end there was one of the hell's angels of our town, funny in itself since he doesn't ride the harley during the week, instead opting for a little 250 or some japanese make...

He's had it for about 7 months, but we're just now finishing the paperwork. It really moves for a 250. He's begging for a Ducati, but that's just not going to happen anythime soon.

We got the bike registered and insured yesterday. He'll probably get his license next week. He could've gotten it a year ago, but we didn't have a running 250cc. Before 16, (in AR) you're still not allowed to carry passengers. So if he goes on a date, I guess he'll have to drive the tractor!

It's a 100cc. Originally a 90cc, Someone put oversized top-end on it. It's pretty fast. I can ride wheelies on it.

It's all I can do to resist hitchiking over... But alas, much to much to be doing. School, jobs (or the lack of) etc... My 2 year goal is to generate cash flow to purchase a Corvette Stingray in less than perfect condition and bring it to life, as TPTB seem to like the idea of me in an airbagless hunk of fiberglass better than straddling steel.

Yep, better start saving. Even ratty ones are expensive these days. I have an '85 vette, but wish I had an old Stingray. Mom had a '69 Stingray when I was a kid. She was way cooler back then. She also had a GTO, an MGB, and a '67 Mustang. Now she drives an Impala :-( At least I've kept her away from mini-vans!

Jeese.... My mom said she almost bought a 67 Mustang back when it was only twenty years old. I'm looking for something between 75-82, preferably 80-82. I saw one in halfway decent condition for 15 grand from 78.

Yeah, it's pretty sweet. I like sportbike performance, but I hate all the "plastic". He's got the original headlight and tach/speedo assembly, but I think it looks awesome the way it is.

I'll try to get him to post pics. It's a 250, with low miles, set up like a street fighter. Very little plastic and a round headlight. Someone had dropped it, and he got it for just $1000. I rode it home for him (65 miles) at 70 mph. I was very impressed.

Building (and then riding or modifying like there's no tomorrow) a whole "classic" from repro parts is one of my life goals. Specifically, to use repro parts instead of original parts to fill in all the gaps in my incompletes.

Rapide. Yeah, in the 30's-50's some of that Brit iron was awesome. Then came the Jap (imitating Brit) invasion. In the 60's and 70's Honda (and others) really hurt them. Now the Japs are obsessed with imitating Harley Indian and Excelsior. I guess if you don't have a real sense of history and tradition, the rice burners are appealing. I just wish they would work on building a truly awesom, truly Japanese bike. SOme of their sportbikes come close, but still owe a lot to the original Italian crotch-rockets (Aprilia, Ducati,Bimota, etc.).

Yeah, the Japanese have some good engineering, but you're right, there's very little uniqueness. Dirtbikes, perhaps? Since the American scene grew out of the fact that the continent is so huge and open, and the British scene is rooted in cafe racers and the fact that its an island, I wonder what factors a distinctly Japanese bike would pull from? Although my dad's got a Kaw in the garage here that's basically just a ripped-off Harley (I don't remember the specific model), but I hear it was real cheap to insure, and rode good, especialy for the bike-buying budget he had in the mid 80s when he got it. But given the option, I don't think any of us would buy it again nowadays.

Maybe dirtbikes, but even some of those evolved as imitations. Now, 50 years into the bike game, I would say they are truly Japanese. All the dirt and On/off road machines (XL's, XR's, RM's, KX's etc.) don't really owe THAT much to their Euro and American predecessors.

DOn't get me wrong, I've owned more rice-iron than anything else, I just don't like the imitation factor. And I forgot to mention how much the Goldwing and Valkyrie owe to the likes of Zundapp and BMW.

Me too. But you have to understand. A few months ago, Skunkbait Jr. came running in the house and said, "Quick Dad, I need a coathanger and some squirrel-proof gloves!". Anyone that grows up in my household is predisposed to lunacy.

I love the old Beamers. The newest one I rode was just a little TOO comfortable. It felt more like a luxury sedan than a motorbike.

I'd like a German WWII bike, a Vincent, and all the parts and time necessary to design and build my own deisel big twin. Not to mention more than my fair share of Indians. Fours, another Warrior, maybe a Six, a Chief factory sidecar, and a Powerplus or two. And Hopper's bike from Easy Rider. You don't see to many of those. And a bigger shed to store them in. Y'know, if money wasn't an object. :P
