What is the signifigance of your profile pic?

Well, this was inspired as I was reading around in Splazem's post about what your username means.

Profile pics are the faces of the users of this site. Does your profile pic have any significance? Is it just you? Something you made? Art? Favorite thing? What?

Share the significance of your profile picture.

My picture is a random figure I made using Bionicle toys a few years ago. It was a cool picture, looked good on the profile, and is pretty unique, so I keep it around.

My profile pic shows the Testa Mora, or Moor's head. It is the symbol of the Corsican people. I have Spanish (Galician) and Corsican ancestry. That explains the fired temper in my family. I am very proud of my ancestry.

My current one shows a picture of the visual "trunk line" my brain uses as opposed to a neuro-typical's brain.

Woah, that's interesting.

TY, yes I find it fascinating myself :-)
Mine is just the pic my wife took after the alligator let go.

Mine is an artist's photograph of the BaBar experiment during a maintenance period, with me inside the ring of photomultiplier tube bases which are part of the Cherenkov system.
ilpug (author)  kelseymh4 years ago
Wow, so all I got out of that was "Serious science."

kelseymh ilpug4 years ago
:-) You could try typing "BaBar experiment" into Google and see what happens!
My brain went boom after i went on wikipedia on that page...
:-D Yeah. That page was probably written by one of our graduate students, so it's not as easy to understand as it ought to be.

You might try BaBar's "public information" page, http://www-public.slac.stanford.edu/babar/, and see if it's a slightly clearer introduction.

If you're interested and have questions, feel free to post to my Orangeboard.
That must be the writing test they use to qualify and place graduate students in teaching positions. And being able to talk to the blackboard at all times without facing the students.
What University did you attend? Graduate students are never tested for their qualifications to teach, and neither are faculty. And in the immortal words of Adam Savage, "Now there's your problem."
I paid good money expecting to get a piece of paper after a couple of years of hard work and partying that said I was a Fn genius.  That and $2.50 will get you on the subway.
They rose the price again? Isn't it 2.25$?
I think there is a discount on the multi-ride cards. It keeps on changing like the tolls and postage.
Lets not start a discussion on this here :)

Even with Wikipedia down, Google is your friend. You don't even have to type anything -- just copy and paste.
ilpug (author)  kelseymh4 years ago
I know how to use the internet, thanks :P Also, Wikipedia can still be accessed, all you need to do is disable Java on your browser and it works fine.
kelseymh ilpug4 years ago
You're welcome!

Working around the "blackout" sort of defeats the purpose, doesn't it?
ilpug (author)  kelseymh4 years ago
Not really. The people who don't know how to bypass it get the message directly, and they are the majority. The majority controls the media, so the the media says it is blacked out and delivers the message. The people who know how to bypass it are relatively internet-savvy, so they already know the message that SOPA is bad. Therefore, it is a win-win.
schumi23 ilpug4 years ago
(im a little late, but still)
Or the people who read the FAQ, see that it saysd to disable java, and they do, and then they arent blacked out! As long as they can read, and follow directions (though many cant do the latter)

Mine is a well melted and cooked CD which is a reflection of the types of things that some people have requested me to fix. And then there is that moment of sad disappointment when I have to tell them that they are going to have to let it go. Its just beyond repair.

Well, it's me.

Years ago, the BBC had a decent set of Science forums, a grand place for a serious discussion of current affairs, or a roaring argument about the reality of evolution.

The button to go to the forums was a tiny, low-resolution cartoon of a scientist, and just before the forums got closed down, I quickly copied the low-resolution image and started using it as my own.

Since then, a number of kind people have drawn and redrawn my avatar, but always sticking with the same general image of the lab-coated, shiny-pated chap that so many people know.

It's as much a picture of "the real me" as an actual photo is, and I feel weird using other images on the odd occasion that I do.
ilpug (author)  Kiteman4 years ago
Well, it is probably the most well-known picture on the site. I like the simplicity of it, and that it can be changed easily to different configurations.
Kiteman ilpug4 years ago
Indeed - and, look, I've found the original version of my avatar (last, tiny image).

Ha, ha, ha... Kiteman, one of your avatars reminds me of Ernie from Sesame Street. Too funny!

Awesome! The bearded one in the stripey vest is really cool, in a random sort of way.

And now it is overjoyed Aspie brained :-) my latest ible won't win any awards nor contests, but it was the most fun I've had in EONS....and my little LAB partner had barrels of fun too :-)

If you expand the picture there is a caption too :-)
Mine is of my dog Pretzel, holding a hyperflight disc. I was torn between the dog or a picture of my cats, but the first Instructable I wrote was for a dog stroller so the dog got the honor.

My current image is a screen shot of the NOMAD space probe from the classic Star Trek television series.

If you aren't familiary with NOMAD, I have an instructable about a model I made of it.

I did not know that. Now I do.
