No, it's a Mosin Nagant, a Russian bolt action rifle from WWII. (The bolt was removed while I worked on it.)

During the war the Russian manufactured over 20 million. Because of this, they are extremely common and can be found online and at gun stores for between $75 and $150. And the fact you can find ammo for 20 cents a round makes them one of the least expensive large caliber rifles to own and shoot.

How can anyone not be a fan? ;-)

Just got back from the range, boy is my shoulder sore. Was a great day mid 60's, no one on the 100 yard range but me, and the range officer was more interested in playing with his golf cart than bothering me.

Scope was rock solid.

When I first got mine I went out and put 30 rounds through it right away. Ouch. I've decided to keep the open sights, unless I can find some apertures I like (I have a biathalon background), but I am working on a laminated birch thumb-through (since I'm 6' 5" the stock stock is a bit short).

Oh, I got a 10/22 carbine for X-mas, courtesy of my wife!

And- Did you look at the Obrez? Did you already know about them? Heinous! Notice that in the vid, the shooter isn't putting his thumb around the back of the grip.

I'd seen a picture before, but thought it was a photoshop, that's a nasty piece of work.

Your wife is a wonderful woman ;-) My mosin was a gift from mine a couple of years ago. I'm 6'6" myself and yeah those russian soldiers must have been short fellows. Post pix of the thumbhole stock when you finish it.

I keep planning to pick up another mosin for an "art" project rifle.

I'd ask for more rubber bands, but I have about 3/4 of a pound of 64s and a 1/2 pound of 33s, and I don't use them that often.

I am kind of excited to get started on some of the ideas....not that I don't get them (ideas) from here; but I have difficulties with "inspiration" when I don't know what to look for, to inspire me, so the search engine really doesn't help me much.

I have something in the works, not really anything to get excited about unless I can clean it up a bit (it's looking a bit crude at the moment). And fairly simple yet very "hackable" and easily improved on.
