Zapping bricks

I zapped a common red brick with a very powerful beam of light. Here is a picture where you can see the area that was melted. The melted area was actually so hot, it was bubbling! I’m wondering if I should make an Instructable... or is this just too dangerous. OMG anyone??

What was this "beam of light"?

I used a Fresnel lens from a discarded projection TV to focus the sun. It got way hotter than I thought it would. The lens must be the clear kind, not frosted.

You could put a mask over the brick and then melt letters and symbols onto it.

If you can use a mask like that, then you should definitely write an Instructable!

Unfortunately, only about 10% of the lenses that I find are able to be used in this fashion. The frosted lenses could, however, be used to power a Sterling engine.

There you go, that's another project idea.
