Hi, I've got a metal clipper with the adjustable flame wheel on the base, have done some engraving on it also. Problem is, it seems to run out of gas very quick... I refill it holding the gas can to the lighter for about a minute, and it'll run out of gas the same day. The flame also changes heights quickly, going from huge to nothing (without me using the adjust wheel!) Hope you can help, bit annoying that I splash out on a metal clipper and it breaks, whereas the cheap old ones last forever and have no problems!

next time before you try filling it use a tiny screw driver and press down on the fill pipe to release what air pressure might be built up inside of the lighter as this can have a effect on the proper balance of pressure within the lighter, when all of the air is out then try filling the lighter up again

I am 2 years late on this, but just in case anyone else has a problem like this I figured I'd answer.

If you're holding the gas can to the lighter for a full minute, that may be your problem. Try refilling the lighter by using short, quick bursts with the can. I had a see-through lighter and I noticed it didn't fill up if I held the can to it but it would fill up if I did it in bursts.

it could be leaking normaly you wont be able to fix it but you cant try search the lighter while refilling it and listen for the gas leaking it could be fixed with a bit of rsin of supe glue put let the butane out of the lighter then fix and glue so its not underpressure you probaly cut into it while engraving :) hope i help just reply for more help

Or you could but it under water to find the leaks.
sharlston (author) in reply to mikaelthemycologistAug 22, 2009. 11:22 AM
good idea
toogers in reply to sharlstonNov 22, 2009. 7:13 AM
do not do that, it will rust some stuff, inside, making it not light.
sharlston (author) in reply to toogersNov 22, 2009. 8:09 AM

I have a problem with my metal clipper lighter. I fill it with gas, the flint is new, there is a spark, but the flame is very weak even though the wheel is turned to the max. I suspect there might be a problem in the gas button, or supply. I wanted to dissemble it but was afraid to break it, can anyone give me an advice?

i have ronson torch lighter and they have lasted for almost ten years, well of course i have done quite a bit of maintenance to keep them in running condition and then all of a sudden about a month ago they all started breaking one by one, very mysteriously. cant repair them like Ive always been able to before. could it be something in the environment, we did recently move into a new place, or could it be the lighter fluid? its very unusual to have them all start breaking like this. any ideas?

Hello!

A few days ago I bought a second hand lighter and repaired it, but the flame would only light when the body was off. Miraculously, it began working later in the day and I ran the fuel out by the end of the day from excitement.

My problem is that I refueled it today and it only lights without the body again! Thanks for the help!

I have a broken lighter not sure what kind it is but I recently had it filled but it won't light I cleaned the valve that didn't work so thought maybe it was the wire used to light the gas so I tried moving it closer to the valve but that didn't work either and there's only one screw to take out and when I took it out it didn't seem to loosen anything up

If you really want to be precise, it's actually $23.52, but that's just my insatiable urge to use all of Google Search's wonderful features. Man, I love Google...

Rock Soldier in reply to sharlstonSep 14, 2009. 3:02 PM
And for that much(I'm going to pretend it's a USD dollar) You could buy about 15 one dollar lighters that would last longer I'd think than a zippos lighter.
sharlston (author) in reply to Rock SoldierSep 14, 2009. 11:32 PM
no zippos are better you get free repairs
Rock Soldier in reply to sharlstonSep 15, 2009. 4:29 AM
That's cool. "Um, my lighter broke. Can you fix it?" "What's the problem?" "All of the plastic parts are missing, and I have lighter fluid on my clothes...:
Gage987 in reply to Rock SoldierSep 28, 2009. 5:05 PM
also most zippos are collectors items plus they add 10+ to your awesome meter
lemonie in reply to Rock SoldierSep 15, 2009. 1:02 PM
He's talking about quality lighters, like the watches & pens that you don't throw away when they're defective & want to fix them instead.

The Ideanator in reply to Rock SoldierSep 14, 2009. 4:32 PM
Yea, but zippos are awesome, they have an "i'm not a cheapskate who buys cheapa** lighters to set stuff aflame" quality to them.

Probably a knackered-piezo. It could be held together with screws, you'd need pictures I think.

I keep buying stick lighters that work for only a short while then stop.  They are full of fluid so I wonder what is wrong with these.  It seems wasteful to keep buying these.  Can they be fixed?
sharlston (author) in reply to reedaramaJan 11, 2010. 7:41 AM
