frequency filter

I've never designed a filter before and I'm not sure if you can do this. Basically I need a way of filtering out all signal except for signal in the range of 40-150 Hz

. Bandpass filter
. If 0-40 can be ignored, low pass filter

thanks! so THAT's what a low pass filter is, lol. I think I might go with the low pass filter cause it looks simpler and the 0-40 is fine.

umm... can you help me design one?

well, actually I don't know if a filter would be appropriate for what I'm doing, basically all I want to do is isolate the Bass of a song.
Then you want an equalizer, look here for downloads, this one might be what you want.
. If you just want the bass freqs (regardless of instrument), a low pass filter is exactly what you want. If you are trying to extract a bass guitar, I'd investigate add-ons/filters/plugins/whatever for Audacity (or some other audio manipulation app).
. Nope. :( I studied it in school, but haven't used it since. Some of the other guys should be able to help. . For that freq, you should be able to use a speaker cross-over (eg, sub-woofer). Lots of good stuff on the interwebs and you should be able to find circuits that will handle 1KW+.
