You can put any riddle that you like on here. Put some on that you cant
figure out or one you dont think others can get, or just super simple ones.
There are more on the next pages that are still unanswered, actually
there are a lot unanswered. So try to solve them or post a new one.
Grand Central Station is a post office/just a huge room. Grand Central Terminal is the place where the trains are. So, they both weigh the same, as in nothing at all.

You're in a car, going around in circles. You can't stop. An elephant goes past you to your right. Scared, you jump off from your car, off the road, over a cliff. But you survive. Who and where are you?

This isn't so much a riddle as it is a conundrum... You're driving in the middle of nowhere, and suddenly your tire blows out. You pull over to fix the flat (like the handy Instructabler you are) and, forgetting that you read somewhere to not ever do this, you put all five of the lug nuts in the hubcap to keep track of them. As you're rolling the spare over to the car, you accidentally kick the hubcap, and the nuts go flying down into a fathomless cave by the road. So now, here are your givens: - the nearest civilization is 30 miles away, it's chilly, and the sun is setting - you have no cell phone services - those lug nuts are history
What would be the simplest solution to getting your car back on the road again?
Easy, take one from each of the other three wheels. You then have 3 x 4 lug nuts and 1 x 3 lug nuts. Drive slowly for those 30 miles and you should be alright.
Oh ok, sorry about that.

That is yet another riddle from The Hobbit and Bilbo's encounter with Sméagol (Gollum).

I haven't read that book in about a year and a half so I'm not on familiar terms with it. Have you read the Lord of the Rings trilogy? (even though it's 5 or so books I refer to it as a trilogy.) It's a huge read but well worth it.
I have read the Trilogy. Afterward, I attempted to read The Silmarillion, and except for skipping through some of the lists of family names, I got through it fairly well. It explains where the wizards came from, and what they were, among other things. I hear rumors of a Silmarillion Movie too :-)

Cool. A friend of mine has The Silmarillion, isn't that the one where the elves have their gems stolen then have an oath to get them back and end up killing each other because of the result of a badly worded oath?
I appear to be having an error seeing pro formatting, instead of seeing a link, I see
I have little memory of the Silmarillion, except for the portion that describes where Gandalf came from and why he was in Middle Earth (I remember a little about the rise of Morgoth and Sauron, too)
As far as the formatting is concerned.....I can see it also ! *sigh*
Tom? I don't recall much mentioned about him, but he could be in one of the lineages listed that I just had to skip over (they were there for those that REALLY wanted to get into LOTR ancestry).
Gandalf, mentioned as one of those that came from The West quotes a hint in LOTR, but you have to go to the Silmarillion to understand it....the quote is:
Many are my names in many countries, he said. Mithrandir among the Elves, Tharkûn to the Dwarves; Olórin I was in my youth in the West that is forgotten, in the South Incánus, in the North Gandalf; to the East I go not.'
The line Olórin I was in my youth in the West that is forgotten is the mystery line. Olórin was his name in Valinor and in very ancient times (the West, which is forgotten, to which he returns, at the very end of LOTR).
Other info: Gandalf initially appears as an old man with a gray beard, a gray cloak and a large gray hat. Although some of the Wise know his true nature, others mistake him for a simple conjurer. After fighting the Balrog in the Mines of Moria, he reappears as a more imposing figure clad all in white. The change of color is significant, for he has come to replace the corrupted Saruman as the chief of the Wizards. In a sense he has become Saruman, or rather what Saruman should have been. Thus Gandalf was one of the more popular of the Maiar of the people of Manwë and Varda.
i have maybe 8-10 J.R.R. Tolkien books, and i have the LOTR books in the one that is all of them together in one book, but some stupid kid at school ripped the back cover and some pages. i am going to count exactly how many books of his i have at home when i get there.

a jailer has a large number of prisoners to gaurd and has to seat them at a number of tables at mealtimes.
The regulations state the following: each table is to seat the same number of prisoners. the number at each table is an odd number.
The jailer finds that when he seats the prisoners :
3 per table,he has 2 prisoners left over; 5 per table,he has 4 prisoners left over; 7 per table,he has 6 prisoners left over; 9 per table he has 8 prisoners left over; but when he seats them 11 per table there are none left over.
It has to be a multiple of 11. (For obvious reasons.) It has to end with 1, or 6. (For 4 to be left when 5 are seated per table.)
This leaves the numbers 11, 66, 121, 176, 231 or 286.
What's left is to cross each one off to comply with the other rules.
11 can't be it. The closest higher multiple of 3 is 12 which leaves 1. 66 can't be it. It's a multiple of 3 and leaves none left. 121 can't be it. The closest higher multiple of 9 is 126 which leaves 5. 176 can't be it. The closest higher multiple of 3 is 177 which leaves 1. 231 can't be it. It's a multiple of 3 and leaves none left. 286 can't be it. The closest higher multiple of 7 is 287 which leaves 1.
From there I'm going to leave it to some one else because this question's pissing me off.
I think part of the problem is that you're trying to find the lowest number possible with this, when the riddle itself said "a large number." There's no reason it can't be a ridiculously large number!
There is a traveler, trying to get to truthville. However, there is a fork in the road. One path leads to truthville, the other to liarsburg. People from truthville tell nothing but the truth, and people from liarsburg tell nothing but lies. There is a person from one of the villages in the middle. The traveler does not know which path to take, and he does not know where to go.
"Will you" implies asking a question to be verbally answered. Either answer could be given, from either truth-tellers or liars, and could be followed up with either escorting the asker to town or not! Thus, the answer provided below doesn't fully deal with the problem. Also, it is debatable whether escorting someone to a particular town is the same as lying or truth-telling...
Explanation- If the villager is from Truthsville, the villager will tell the truth and take the traveler to truthsville. However, if the villager is from Liarsburg, the villager will lie and then take the traveler to Truthsville.
it cannot be seen, cannot be felt, cannot be heard, cannot be smelt. It lies behind stars and under hills, and empty holes it fills. It comes first and follows after, Ends life kills laughter.
Indeed, you have to understand that riddles take some fair amount of leeway in their interpretation: ends life = at the end of life (one's eyes are closed i.e. darkness).

yes, not many people laugh when it is dark because it symbolizes fear and ends life because it also symbolizes death. this is why horror films are always at night. but i took it from the hobit so ask J.R.R. Tolkien, even if he is dead. so ask Christipher Tolkien.
there are 10 places to embark and disembark on a lift at a ski resort. It is possible to purchase a single ticket between any 2 stations. How many different tickets does a skier need to go to every station from any other station?
9. EVERY station from any other station, meaning you start at one station and are trying to get to ALL of the other 9 stations. You need 9 tickets to do that. Unless you aren't planning on getting off the lift, in which case Kryptonite is correct -- you only need to ride the lift once to see all the stations.

Which weighs more, the number of trains pass through Grand Central Station in a month, Or the number of trees cut down to make dollar bills in a year?
If you are from England or from a country other than America, you probably won't be able to figure it out unless you saw the movie...
So, the trains...?
amiright?
They both weigh the same.

A real conundrum is the drive-shaft between the axle and hub breaking. The whole hub with the tyre comes off and rolls away. Not a nice situation 8-o
If it does, it's like: "Oh my, whats tha..."

toothless bites,
mouthless mutters.
