username?
Every user has a name on a computer. not the user names that show when youre on the login screen, but other names (usually the same names) that show in command prompt and in my computer and as the computer's users name. Mine is currently set to my mother's name (she registered the computer I guess, or something like that) What I would like to know is, how can I change this name? I'd like it to display my name.
If you dont know what Im talking about, open command prompt. it will say something like C:\windows:users:(yourname) the (yourname) is what I want to change.

ok I found how to change it with windows vista, without a program! go to regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/WindowsNT/CurrentVersion. click the current version and theres a file in there called RegisteredOwner. double click it and change the name to what you want, then hit ok and exit.
What OS do you have (Windows XP, VISTA, 98) ? I have seen a set of tools (not for the newbe or fainthearted) for making such changes. I did so in XP with TWEAK IU I think.....let me check that....

ill try that one when I get back on my computer (w00t @ ipod internet) and see if it works. sometimes things not made for a cartain os will still work because of similarities between OS's
Believe me, there are few similarities between XP and Vista LOL
true - vista sucks and xp doesnt (as much) but ill give it a shot anyway - I had a major problem with my comp, and in the process of repairing it had to somepletely wip my hard drive, yet it still says my moms name as the user! its getting annoying, because it then uses that name to set other names by default.
You can't, unless you want to buy another copy of Windows.
