Overview

Are you between the ages of 13 and 18? Do you have ideas to design the ultimate bedroom, kitchen, game room, or even... bathroom? We want to see your best room design projects, either for a full room or for something that goes in the room. You may use CAD software (like Tinkercad) or submit drawings of your plan. Five lucky local winners will get to bring their designs to life in the Museum of Science and Industry Chicago's Wanger Family Fab Lab.

Share your design ideas in the Improve Your Room Youth Design Challenge to win an Up! Mini 3D printer, a Silhouette Cameo CNC cutting machine, or three sweet electronics kits that will help you to keep your gadgets charged, annoy your parents, and build an electronic house.

Multiple entries are accepted, but each entrant can only win one prize. Contest is open to entries from US, Canada [excluding Quebec], UK, China, Belgium, the Netherlands, Australia, Colombia, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, India, New Zealand, and Denmark. The Contest begins at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (PT), September 30, 2013. Contest closes for entries at 11:59pm PT, December 2, 2013.

The winner(s) will be solely responsible for complying with any and all applicable statutes, laws (including, without limitation, common law, if applicable), rules and regulations and for bearing any personal income tax, VAT, withholding taxes, customs duties, or other taxes, fees, insurance, surcharges or other costs relating to receiving, claiming or collecting any prize.

One Grand Prize winner will receive:

Judges' Prize: Chicago Area Winners (5)

Up to five lucky local (to the Chicago area) winners will get to bring their designs to life at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago’s Wanger Family Fab Lab. At the Museum, local finalists will get exclusive access to digital fabrication tools, including laser cutters, vinyl cutters, electronics prototyping tools and 3D printers!

Winners do not need to be experts in design software or machine operation, as they will also receive mentoring from the Fab Lab’s experts. During the visit to the Fab Lab, winners will be able to create or perfect the digital mockup of their entries, then operate the digital fabrication tools in the lab to make an actual prototype of their design! Note: Please let us know if you're in the Chicago area in the introduction of your instructable to be considered for this prize.

Local winners will also receive an Instructables prize pack including a robot t-shirt!

Create a new Instructable that fits the guidelines outlined in the contest description above. To be eligible, Instructables must be published between Sep 30, 2013 and Dec 2, 2013 (11:59pm PT).

Accepting

Entries are accepted by Instructables staff within one business day Monday - Friday. What matters is the submission time, not acceptance time.

Judging

A panel of judges made up of Instructables staff and respected members of the community rate the finalists. The averages of the ratings determine the winners.
