Looks like my comment below may have been overlooked.

Will an existing 'ible qualify if it's modified with improved design elements, etc.?
Oct 31, 2010. 3:15 PMlockpick says:
HEY!! Why was my handle cover thing removed????? It used an inner tube.
Oct 29, 2010. 11:15 PMMarcos says:
I have an 'ible posted from a year or so ago which uses an inner tube.
Can I enter it into this contest if I mod the original, which needs a few improvements?

Thanks

P.S. I missed the show and tell, which was dissappointing, having been to a couple of the original salons. ;-(

Could I enter with a 3D computer model instructable project?
Oct 14, 2010. 9:58 AMbpfh says:
Can you tell me how a 3D computer model instructable project could be entered into a competition about a project that re-uses an inner tube? Inquiring minds want to know!!
Oct 15, 2010. 11:51 AMLindsley says:
Some time ago I have designed a solar cooker that use inner tubes, but I don't have the material to make it. So I render it in 3DS MAX. ;)
Oct 16, 2010. 11:52 AMbpfh says:
+1 for Lindsley :)

Upload the drawings, you may not be eligible to enter the competition, but your design (unless you are aiming to make a pile of cash from the design) could be very interesting for others!
Oct 16, 2010. 1:55 PMLindsley says:
The first image is my original Tirecooker with an auto inner tube and an bike inner tube isolating the two glass plates ahead. The metal black pot in the center absorbs the heat and cooks the food. The inside of the big tube is covered with aluminum foil to reflect the heat to the pot.

The second and third images was the Tirecooker optimized, with angle support, wood case and internal mirrors hinged. These helps to open the cooker to manipulate the food in the pot.

Anyone is free to test it, if desired.
Oct 18, 2010. 7:54 AMtwistedhickey says:
One thing you didn't think of....................................The food will taste like tire!!!!!!!
Oct 29, 2010. 8:55 PMkikiclint says:

Oct 16, 2010. 6:34 PMLindsley says:
Well, I make something: a detailed 3D project (see the images).
Oct 21, 2010. 4:05 PMlockpick says:
Ok I'm ready. I don't really need any of the prizes (except some of them) could I possibly donate the prizes?
Oct 22, 2010. 8:30 PMAngryRedhead says:
You can donate them if you win. You will be given a link to fill out your details (e.g., name, address, phone number, email) for claiming the prize. To give the prize to someone else, you just simply pass that link on to your chosen recipient.
Oct 22, 2010. 8:43 PMlockpick says:

So it can be anything as long as it is re-used? I got a bunch of tire tubes and snow tubes. What about swimming pool tubes because I have a vague idea of what I want to submit.
">
Oct 13, 2010. 3:47 PMcanida says:
You need to reuse a bike inner tube, though you can also incorporate other inner tubes.
Oct 14, 2010. 4:39 PMWesley666 says:
I think as long as it could be done with a tire tube of any sort, its fine. I don't think the tube type matters.
Oct 15, 2010. 3:23 AMKryptonite says:
Canida's one of the top staff and probably helped make the contest, so I'm going with her.
Oct 15, 2010. 12:29 PMWesley666 says:
Yes, but not everyone has a bike tube, or can buy one. I think that as long as its the same material and comes in tube format its fine. And really, is a snow tube much different then a bike tube (Other then size)? It would allow more people to enter as well which is always nice, more minds, better ideas.
Oct 15, 2010. 7:37 AMdoby162 says:
Awwww... nothing about alchemy whatsoever...
Oct 15, 2010. 10:40 PMTommy Jae says:
I know this question pretty much answers itself, but... Can we use more than one tube? It says the word "it" over and over implying a single tube, but it doesn't actually say you can't have more than one. Plus, since the guidelines also say "so long as you reuse aninner tube, the rest is up to you!" that means you could use ONE inner tube to meet the contest specifications, then use other inner tubes and other stuff as "the rest" which would be up to me.
Oct 17, 2010. 4:22 PMAngryRedhead says:
For all those who are wondering how to get a bicycle inner tube for this contest, which is not mandatory for all members of Instructables:

Call around at bicycle shops, bicycle repair shops, tire recycling centers, or places that accept tires for recycling. I got a huge box of them for free at a bicycle shop that also does bicycle repairs. They were very happy to get rid of them.  You do not have to go out and buy one, and you aren't required to have one on hand already.  You can also inquire on craigslist since this is a very common repair and people might have some lying around in their garage.  Honestly, buying an inner tube defeats the purpose because the goal is to upcycle something that is difficult, infeasible, or impossible to recycle.

Damn I had hoped this was for Alchemy :'(
Oct 14, 2010. 10:17 PMFenneo says:
If anyone needs inner tube stop by your local REI bike shop. They recycle their tubes to Alchemy Goods but often have many they cannot send to Alchemy and are willing to give to you.

Could I use like a snow tube?
Oct 13, 2010. 3:48 PMcanida says:
You need to reuse a bike innertube. Anything else is up to you.
Oct 14, 2010. 4:38 PMWesley666 says:
Yes, they could use a Snowtube, its pretty much the same thing as an inner tube (Same material) just bigger.
Oct 14, 2010. 7:00 PMpie popper says:
Goody!! I got a lot of those! :D
