meghanelizabeth -- your "featured" Pineapple Quilt is awesome.

No wonder -- it's exquisitely crafted with clear and accurate instructions to make it, as you put it, as simple or complex as a quilter may want.

A superb example of the serious quilt maker's craft.

Good luck in the contest.

oh man, just not enough time to get my instructable in... Done and all, just don't want to submit a sloppy instructable. So many super cool quilts though, awesome work!

A quilt in a month? You want an entire quilt finished in a month or just a block construction and top finished in a month? I kind of doubt a person can get the top pieced, the quilt quilted and binding sewn on in just a month. Is this just a quilt-or can it be a quilted article?

My sister is crazy i guess cause she gets quilts done in a day if she sits and works on it!
Apr 7, 2011. 11:57 AMMadDogg710 says:
PBS has a show called "quilt in a day". Although I have never made one Im sure it can be done.

Also remember that some people will have photographed a quilting project completed prior to the contest, so all they have to do is write up the Instructable. I've got a few projects like that - photos ready to go, but nothing written.

But yeah, I've seen the amount of work that can go into a full-size, detailed, and meticulously made quilt. It certainly takes longer than a month unless you have hours per day to work on it. And most people don't have that kind of time!

haha my mother can! :)

lap quilts can easily be finished in much less time than this.

The description just says “relates to some aspect of quilting” which will end up including everything from super-simple to crazy-complex projects. I totally agree that a whole quilt in a month is a tall order, especially if someone doesn’t check the site constantly and may not see the contest until the second or third week in (and has a job/family/other projects going on).

I’ve known people who have completed quilts over weeks, months and even years. So I do not think being surprised by the idea of a month long deadline demonstrates an underestimation of anyone’s abilities. It just sounds like you made awesome quilts : )

So I bet you have advice/examples around one part of quilting that could be a great entry!

It is sad that you underestimate your and the Instructables community member's ability to create great items in a short period of time. You should challenge yourself to make an entry. I bet you would be surprised at how much you could accomplish in one month.
Mar 30, 2011. 7:18 PMiminthebathroom says:
Yup, technically even if you didn't have time to make an instructable for this contest in time, you could look on your past experience and/or builds. Then document to the best of your ability and contribute it as a photo Instructable. This is what I will be doing as years ago I made my wife a quilt for Christmas. No I don't have photos of me making it, but I do have nice shots of it being up through the holidays, and shots of it now.

Preach it, antibromide!
Mar 14, 2011. 10:00 PMvgunkel says:
"items" I can make in a short amount of time. My comment/question referred to making, and quilting a whole quilt in a month, or just making a block to show a recycling type of project. I misunderstood the requirements of the contest-making a quilted item and making an entire quilt in the next few weeks would determine if this was something I could even consider.
Mar 17, 2011. 4:26 PMcanida says:
A block design, a quilted purse, speed-piecing techniques, or tips on binding are all fine - it doesn't have to be a whole quilt start-to-finish! We try to make contests as broad as possible for exactly the reasons you describe.

I've got one quilt that has been "in progress" for roughly 20 years now, so certainly understand that quilts can be enormous labors of love. ;)

How is this contest voted on, but the comments or just by the judges?
Mar 29, 2011. 10:18 PMChrysN says:
There is a voting period of a few days following the close of the contest. The top vote getters make up half of the finalist and the other half are chosen by instructables staff (?and sponsors). Then there is the judging phase the judges are usually instructables staff and I'm guessing sponsors too.
Mar 30, 2011. 11:41 AMjeff-o says:
Judges also include the Community Team (formerly Feature Team) and select Instructables members.

You can enter if you have a shipping address in the US (or know someone who does that can then send the prize onto you....)
Mar 23, 2011. 9:26 PMstarshipminivan says:
If you've done an amazing quilting project in the past but didn't take step-by-step photos, consider submitting a Photo Instructable. Take some good shots, maybe include your block patterns, some words about the material choices, assembly method, etc. and you've got yourself an entry without killing yourself to get a big project done by the deadline. You can describe your process and materials in as much detail as you'd like.

I plan to submit a photo of a finished project along with my own hand-drawn blocks (if I can find them, otherwise I'll probably draw them again) and some description of my process.

Photo 'ibles are a great way to share projects that you just can't (or would rather not) redo step-by-step. It doesn't have to be a brand new project, just a brand new Instructable.

Mar 17, 2011. 4:28 PMcanida says:
Unfortunately the sewing machines have to be shipped within the US. Maybe you need a US-based co-conspirator?
Mar 15, 2011. 9:09 PMthevoid says:
so can you enter more than one? just wondering
Mar 17, 2011. 4:27 PMcanida says:
Please do! You can only win one prize, but enter as many projects as you like.
Feb 27, 2011. 9:49 AMabbyholverson says:
Do our entries have to be new instructables, or can they be one that we wrote in the past?
Feb 28, 2011. 2:51 PMcanida says:
They need to be new Instructables that are published after the contest starts on March 3. However, you can do a new and improved version of a past project - maybe reference your original crazy quilt block Instructable and explain how you tweak it for different effects, or how you assemble it?
Mar 5, 2011. 8:29 PMiminthebathroom says:
Always wondered about that, every once in a while you would see entries that were a year or more older. Guess they were tweaked and re-published?
Feb 28, 2011. 3:06 PMabbyholverson says:
Thanks! I figured as much, but had to double check!
Mar 4, 2011. 5:51 AMlizzyastro says:
US residents or US shipping address?
Mar 5, 2011. 11:58 AMcanida says:
This is entirely a shipping issue.
Mar 4, 2011. 5:55 AMNachoMahma says:
. If you have a US shipping address, I doubt if anyone is going to check your citizenship papers. YMMV.
