Am smiling here - because some of the entries inspire me to learn to crochet. I am a knitter, but want to learn to crochet based on what I am seeing here!!!
i find crochet much easier than knitting. i've made attempts at knitting a few times and just flail a lot, whereas crochet is the perfect level of fidgeting activity for me.
It's definitely faster for me, and easier to make oddly-shaped pieces!
Knitting still looks more polished, though, which is important if making something to wear. I can also do it without looking too frequently, whereas in crochet you have to look down for every stitch, especially with those awesome fuzzy yarns.

I definitely like crochet better because I find it easier to make more intricate and difficult things than with knitting. Basic knitting may be a little easier than basic crochet, but I had a hard time doing anything close to advanced with knitting. Knitting seems to be more popular though, because it seems easier to find cool patterns and most yarn stores seem to stock mostly knitting notions. Or at least that's been my experience so far! Maybe it's different in other places :).

Your afghan is absolutely beautiful and was a deserving winner. It was a fun contest wasn't it? I got lots of great ideas and new patterns to play with in the future. Hope you will keep on making things - especially now you have $25 of yarn to play with - and post the results on the site.

yes, but then it would take the fun out of my job...making it for him. I made him an afghan when he was about nine years old and to this day he still sleeps with it. It would be an honor to make my son another afghan that he would feel fondly of using for a long long time. It's what I love to do for my kids...especially when they know how hard I worked to make it for them. I can't wait to get my 25 dollar coupon and get started on this great project!!!
Your son is a lucky fellow! That's a lot of work, and it's great to know they appreciate the amount of time/love that went into them. I specifically don't crochet afghans for our house, because my husband's grandmother makes absolutely gorgeous ones for us. I love using hers for the connection and memories. (That means I've still got a bunch of neat projects on tap after seeing the contest entries! They've been incredible.)

With so many wonderful entries, I know it must have been very hard to just pick a few. It was very interesting to see which projects were finally picked and I think Lion Brand judges made excellent choices. It would be interesting to see what the winners make with their $25 yarn certificates. I hope they will post their new creations for all to see when they can. The Instructables winners were also great projects in different ways, especially the gun case. I think this won the "curiosity" vote! After all, who could resist looking to see what this was all about! A good job done by all concerned.
