How about we develop games Robots would like to play....since we have so many that involve robots that WE like to play :-)

maybe this guessing game IS the beginning or first iteration of the game Robots like to play on humans ?
Feb 11, 2008. 7:23 PMGoodhart says:
Or maybe taking out the emotions of the human for the robot to experience...

I thought these were for the next contest? :-O

Sorry, I didn't bother reading all of the comments, so I don't know if someone already guessed it, but is it for a robot building Instructable?
A maybe a video game?
Or is it for a mind control machine? (any one see that episode of mythbusters?:-)
Is it for an Instructable on maybe for making people either really happy or really miserable?
Those are just some of my guesses.
-Hello Kitty
(By the way.....what does iteration mean? As in "first iteration"?)

Thanks, Goodhart! But I still don't understand. "First iteration"? According to the link you posted, doesn't first iteration mean first loop? Or am I just confused? Or is it a clue?
Feb 13, 2008. 4:08 PMGoodhart says:
Yes, the first loop, the first "round" or first time around....the first installment also...

Contest: How to build a child leash :) The other day I was walking down the street and I saw a women with a dog with out a leash and a child with a leash. It was really funny.
Feb 6, 2008. 7:03 PMGoodhart says:
I once had one of those invisible dog leashes.......the novelty wears off fast ....
Feb 6, 2008. 8:09 PMjoejoerowley says:
Oh, what did you use it for? (I am assuming not on the dog. :)
Feb 11, 2008. 6:40 PMGoodhart says:
You walk along the road and it looks like you have a dog, but there is no dog.....it is for getting odd looks, and I can do that without the leash LOL
Feb 11, 2008. 7:09 PMjoejoerowley says:
No joke. People always give me wired looks when I wear my LED Christmas lights around my neck in the middle of April.
Feb 9, 2008. 12:23 PMwestfw says:
I've been reading Asimov's robot stories to my son. They've become very ... surreal. Especially jarring, given what really happened, is the portrayed failure of technology to propagate - four supercomputers do all the computing for the world, and the positronic brain remains the exclusive property of US Robots & Mechanical Men for 50+ years.
Feb 9, 2008. 6:29 PMzachninme says:
I don't think that we'll ever get to the point where we have enough/too many computers.
As technology increases, we'll be able to make things that utilize the new power we have unlocked. I think computer games will actually keep it going, as they will eventually, eventually lead to simulated reality. And since a simulation can't be just as big, just as complex, and just as fast as the real reality, we'll have to build to try to match them.
Feb 9, 2008. 6:13 PMiman says:
I love Asimov's books :)
Feb 15, 2008. 5:29 PMGoodhart says:
The "I, Robot" series is great (along with "The Rest of the Robots", The complete Robot, Robot Dreams, and Robot Visions.

Igor: You know, I'll never forget my old dad. When these things would happen to him... the things he'd say to me. Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: What did he say? Igor: "What the hell are you doing in the bathroom day and night? Why don't you get out of there and give someone else a chance?"
Feb 6, 2008. 8:13 PMjoejoerowley says:
I like this one when they are at the front of the door. [Frankenstein, Igor and Inga in front of HUGE castle doors] Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: What knockers. Inga: Oh, thank you doctor. haha, I am so immature. :)
Feb 6, 2008. 8:14 PMjoejoerowley says:
Wait this one is better! Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Igor, help me with the bags. Igor: [Imitating Groucho Marx (of the marxs bros)] Soitenly. You take the blonde, I'll take the one in the turban. Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: I was talking about the luggage. I die every time i hear that one!
Feb 6, 2008. 8:33 PMGoodhart says:
That is one silly and hilarious movie :-)
Feb 7, 2008. 5:23 AMjoejoerowley says:
Yeah, its a classic.
Feb 7, 2008. 6:34 AMgmoon says:
Oh, dear god, don't get me started..I can recite the entire movie verbatim :o)

All hail Kenneth Mars as Inspector Kemp...

Not to mention all the original movies ("Son of Frankenstein", etc.) that MB simultaneously satired and payed homage to...
Feb 7, 2008. 7:09 AMGoodhart says:
I do like Mel Brookes movies, but I lean more towards Monty Python movies and tv shows for my dose of silliness when I need it ;-)

That parrot is dead !
Feb 7, 2008. 7:48 AMgmoon says:
...Norwegian blue... :D

I love 'em both. Do ya think Python (and Marx Bros) stuff is very much about the language? (in a good way..) 'Course there's a health dose of absurdity built into that...

(AhhHH, I do hate it when I get 'cerebral' about comedy. Ya like what ya like.)
Feb 7, 2008. 7:58 AMGoodhart says:
About language? I am not sure I understand. I can certainly see where "cultural" differences would make one thing funny to some and not to others. Environment also. I heard raves about the movie Arthur but because it involved an alcoholic and my experiences with such were LESS then funny, it didn't strike a positive note with me.
Feb 7, 2008. 8:36 AMgmoon says:
Stuff like the The Argument Sketch or the 'Bruces:'

-- Fourth Bruce: Michael Baldwin, Bruce. Michael Baldwin, Bruce. Michael Baldwin, Bruce.
-- First Bruce: Is your name not Bruce?
-- Michael: No, it's Michael.
-- Second Bruce: That's going to cause a little confusion.

Seem (to me) to be a lot about the absurdity and self-contradictory nature of language....

And groucho's classic:

Last night I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas I'll never know.
Feb 7, 2008. 9:58 AMGoodhart says:
Oh yes, that, I understand what you mean now. Yes, in the Dead Parrot sketch I mentioned, that long list of synonyms for deceased Mr. Clease comes up with because of not being "understood", is amazing.

Much like such abbott and costello classics as " who's on first?"; The flea flew, and Horse's Fodder (a mudder eats its fodder), etc.

classic W.C.Fields: I love children if they're cooked properly.
Feb 7, 2008. 11:23 AMgmoon says:
hehe. Kinda like (don't know who said it first):

I have the heart of a small child.....

...which I keep in a jar, in my desk...
Feb 7, 2008. 12:14 PMGoodhart says:
That sounds like Stephen King :-)
Feb 7, 2008. 2:29 PMgmoon says:
Yeah, could be...(might it be an older expression? no idea...)
Feb 7, 2008. 7:13 PMjoejoerowley says:
About the parrots thing. There is this group of guys that pretend get spam mail and tell the spammers they have to do something to get the money, so the guys made them do the parrot scene. Its great!

Feb 7, 2008. 5:07 PMGoodhart says:
Yeah, I hadn't remembered that from my youth, but a month or so ago they had an Astroboy marathon on......Cartoon Channel maybe?; anyway, I watched a few for old times sake and the way they portrayed certain politics was not always aimed at "children". I rather liked POGO though :-)
