Edopunkrss
I always prophesied that the Space Age was over. They should build spaceships of rice-paper and bamboo, decorated with poems.- J. G. Ballard
Somewhere between finding the Sangaku case mod and building my shoji lamp, I mentally coined the term "edopunk" for a certain style I particularly enjoy. I meant it to be a similar philosophy to steampunk- building individual, hand made objects that fuse beauty and utility- but differing on the details.
Where steampunk means brass, dark stained wood, leather, intricate details and a weighty and heavy feel, edopunk means bamboo, natural/unfinished pale woods and raw fabrics, paper (possibly painted), clean lines and a light, minimalistic feel.
I have picked out the following Instructables as fitting the "edopunk" aesthetic, which I hope their respective authors appreciate. Having given it a name, I'd be interested to see what else people find that fits the style.
