How to Download Torrents

for those who don't know what a torrent is,
a torrent is a way to dowload files. but unlike normal web downloading torrents are downloaded in parts, and not from one location(pc) but from multiple, in the most cases this is way faster than normal downloading.

disclaimer:i am in no way responsible for what you do with this information, downloading is in some country's illegal. although the chances that you are cought are very small, you can get cought and as i said earlier I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE for anything you do, not even if these instructions causes your head to explode, and i don't want you to come nagging me when things go wrong, now on to the instructable!

Step 1: Download Utorrent

Give a general description of the Stepnow, before we start with using utorrent, it's actually called micro-torrent, because the first 'u' in the name is actually a 'micro' sign(this is also the logo)

now, lets download utorrent,
first you should go to http://www.utorrent.com/
then you should click the large "get �Torrent" button
then you browser should ask either where you want to save the file or what to do with the file,
you should run this file. it then starts an installer, you should follow all the instructions in the installer, after the installer is done and you have pressed finish, you have installed utorent!

Step 2: Find Torrents

now, after you have installed utorrent you should start it up, it doesn't apear to do anything but utorrent is hiding in your system tray(see image) double click the utorrent logo and the main screen should open, when you look to the right and up you see an search-box, type you search terms there and click the magnifier to select a searchengine, i will be using mininova, then press enter to search, this will open a webpage, wait until this page has loaded, see image 2 for the next part off this text. that table shown on that site are your search results, in the first column the date on which this torrent was added is shown, in the second column the category is shown, after that the sorrent name is shown, then the size, and after that the seeds and leachers,
now a short explanation on seeds an leachers:
seeds:people who have downloaded the torrent completly and are now uploading
leachers:people who are still downloading, note that these people also upload, but only as much as they currently have

now you want to sort the table on seeds, the more seeds the faster the download, you can do this by clicking the 'seeds' link on top, no wait for the page to reload...
now you want to look trough the table for a torrent which has a promising name, if you are downloading the sims2 this might be "sims2+crack", when a torrent has 'full', 'crack' or 'keygen' in the title, this means that it has an include crack on it, if your goal is to download illegal games, you need a torrent with a crack, now when you have found your torrrent you must click on the tile this shows more infromation(image 3) about your torrent, the most important information is the 'share ratio' you want this to be as high as posible, now if this really is the torrent that you want you need to click the 'download this torrent' link, then you should open the received file, which ends in .torrent this is a small file which contains info on where to get all the parts, now onto the next step!

Step 3: Download Torrents

DISCLAIMER:be careful with what you download, downloading copyright protected files might be illegal, and you do want to have a good virus scanner like avg-free when you open unknown.exe files

when you have clicked the download link and opened the torrent uttorent should open and show a window(see image), in this window you can select where to save all the files, and you can select which files to download, after you have set all options you can press ok, the torrent should start downloading, you can minimize utorrent and it should pop back in the system tray, now when you are in the midle of a download you DON'T have to wait for it to finish completly, if you don't like having your pc on at night, you can just shut down your pc, your download will continue as soon as you start utorrent again. no as your torrent is downloading you might have noticed some weird file formats in the torrent, here is a shot explanation:
.NFO:just a text file with a different name, use notepad to open,
.ISO:dvd/cd image file, you need to mount these files with a program like poweriso(thats a whole new instructable)
.BIN:same as .iso, there are a couple off different extensions for this type off file

after you have downloaded your torrent, the torrent starts uploading, if you don't want this you can just press the 'stop' button, but when you download a lot and upload a little you upload/download ratio goes down, and people with higher upload/download ratio get more download speed form the seeds, so you might want to keep uploading...
