Step 4: Anti Ant Hack

Picture of Anti Ant Hack
If you've got ants and you're looking for a natural form of pest control, try measuring out a cup of popcorn kernels.  Put them in a blender, on high speed for about 30 seconds, and you'll end up with a batch of fresh, homemade cornmeal.  Just make a few piles around the ant trails and within a few days, your ant problems will, literally disappear.

It also works if you mix half icing sugar and half baking soda. The granules are basically the same size. Ants are basically made of formic acid, and so---- BOOM!

Popcorn kernels in a blender? Does that damage the blender at all?

should not, it will sound super noisy though.

Hmm. Why is this? Does cornmeal discourage or kill them?

According to this source:

http://lifehacker.com/kill-ants-safely-with-cornmeal-510414551 ant's treat it like a food but can't digest it. So they feel full but starve to death.

I've been treating a huge ant colony by my garage with plain yellow corn meal over the past few days. The piles keep disappearing and the trails of ants are getting smaller. Seems to be working.

Borax and karo syrup is another killer, it is sold commercially as Terro. It is very effective as well, but gets pricy compared with the cornmeal.

For added effect (though anyone trying this please be mindful of pets and children), mix a little borax in with the cornmeal. It will kill them far, far faster. I managed to wipe out a colony in less than a week that had been plaguing me for months.

Can I just use the bag of cornmeal that is sitting in my cupboard?

I like ants, but if you want to get rid of them, this natural method really seems like the way to go.
