10 Minute Pickles

Featured
Picture of 10 Minute Pickles
This recipe makes delicious pickles that are a great snack during summer! There are only three ingredients and it only takes 10-15 minutes to make. My baby sitter used to make these for me when I was little and I would eat them all the time. I hope every body enjoys my ten minute pickles!

Step 1: Ingridients

Picture of Ingridients
Ingredients:
Apple Cider Vinegar 1/2 cup
2-3 Cucumbers (the smaller the better)
1 cup of water boiled

Materials:
A container that can be sealed
Mandoline or Knife

Step 2: Cut the cucumbers

Use your mandoline/knife to cut the cucumbers into very thin slices. I ended up cutting about three which was a whole cup. Place  the slices of cucumber in the container you plan on pickling the cucumbers in.

Step 3: Pickling

Pour the cup hot water into the jar with the cucumbers. Next, pour the apple cider vinegar into the jar and screw on the lid. Wait ten minutes and then strain. Wait for the pickles to cool and then devour them!

My mom made something like this:

Her recipe was equal parts
white vinegar
water
sugar

some ground pepper

I have done this with white vinegar and apple cider vinegar and reduced the sugar in it. I put this in a plastic container and set overnight but at least 10 minutes. I admit it I do dip into it before I let it go very long. I also slice in onions with it.
can you use white vinegar instead of apple cider vinegar and can i let them sit for longer than 15 minutes, maybe a day or 2?

Hmm... I've never tried it with white vinegar. I'm sure it could work but it would probably be a little to tart but you could still try. If you were to let is sit for a few days I'm guessing it would be extremely tart. Maybe you should try it with some sugar added to it?
yea they were quite tart but sugar is a good idea, are there any other ingredients i could possibly add?

I can't really think of anything to sweeten them up besides sugar. I think if you were to use apple cider vinegar instead of white vinegar along with sugar and then let it sit for two days they would be pretty sweet.

Sorry, the vinegar was just to much for me. I drained them well, added a touch of sugar, salt and pepper than a half cup of sour cream. Think I saved them. Having for dinner shortly.

Sorry that you didn't like it. :( Maybe next time you could try it without as much apple cider vinegar or maybe don't let it sit as long? Hope this helps! -Rrkrose
Just made these a few minutes ago with a cucumber that was looking a little rough. They're awesome! I added a little dill, garlic and hot sauce to the liquid. Very good for so little work. :D

Thanks for sharing. My mom loves spicy foods so I think I will add hot sauce next.

do these really taste like actual pickles?, because real pickles need to be fermented and that takes a while
rrkrose (author)  instruct391 year ago
Yes they do actually taste like pickles.
cool, ill have to try that some time!
Tried it! Awesome! Going to leave them in for a bit longer then deep fry them in breadcrumbs!

Yeah! I am so glad someone tried this recipe and enjoyed it. I love anything fried so tell me how they turn out and I might have to try it.
I'm going to try this soon, but I am going to boil some Dill Seed in with the water!
This sounds awesome! I'll have to try this next time I buy cucumbers. :D
