100 Ways to Reduce Your Impact

Step 11Use a line to dry your clothes

Use a line to dry your clothes
Instead of using the energy of your clothes drier, use a clothes line to dry your clothes.
A great clothes line recommended from Tim O'Reilly and Saul Griffith on Twitter, is:http://www.clotheslineshop.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=C&Product_Code=01500

It is more efficient...obviously.

Where I live this is not possible in the winter. Also not possible anytime of the year because there is to much dust in the air so your clothes just get dirty again. Also the sun bleaches things to much, lol all I own is dark colours so I can't have any bleaching.

The bleaching effect is great for whites, which you don't have! I hear you as far as the dust goes. However, I would be surprised if it was more dusty than Hotan, China in the Taklamikan desert, where we lived for 4.5 years (2nd largest sand dune desert in the world). It literally rained dust and sand for 6 months of the year (remember the 1st Gulf War images?...similar). We hung our clothes inside and outside. Inside was the easiest way to avoid the dust (mostly). The key to removing the dust is not to wipe or pat it with your hand, but give it a good hard, snapping shake.

This one isn't really a viable solution in some climates... Clothes don't dry when it is -20 degrees outside, they freeze...

True, but then the frozen water sublimates away. Try it! :)
