100 Ways to Reduce Your Impact

Step 3Recycle your junk mail

Recycle your junk mail
As a future college student, my brother, my sister, and I receive about 5 letters a day regarding colleges. We usually do not read most of them because most are either too far away, or we are interested in those colleges.

Recycle those letters! Don't throw them away!

Contact your local recycling center, and ask them if they have any tips on recycling, and junk mail recycling. Ask them about electronics recycling days, or pickups.

Throwing out old electronics is dangerous, and they would usually just end up in a landfill. Don't let that happen, ask your recycling center how to recycle them the right way.

Here is another Instructable of mine on how to reduce your junk mail from advertisers.

Lol, mail. The only things that really need to come through mail is bills and the such. Everything else could be computerized to conserve paper.

It is a good idea to recycle your junk mail, but be careful! There may be personal or confidential information in there! Be sure to shred it first.

No insult intended, but I chuckle every time I hear someone say that.  For most people, I'm sure shredding personal information's a good precaution, but my credit's so bad, I haven't been able to even get a credit card for many years.  No worries about identity theft.  Let's hear it for bad credit!  Woohoo!  :-D

even better:  look for the email, phone, or fax information on themailing you are receiving, and contact the company to be removed fromtheir mailing list.
bonuses - less junk mail, your name is sold to fewer new lists, lesspaper used in the first place, less ink used to print, less oil expendedto transport the mail....
