100 Ways to Reduce Your Impact

Step 7Plant a tree!

Plant a tree!
Plant a tree! What a novel idea! Especially because it absorbs a ton of carbon dioxide over it's lifetime!

Trees also produce shade, which can lower your energy costs 10-15%.

They absorb in the gas that is contributing to global warming. Trees release oxygen in to the atmosphere as well. Trees really are useful!

They are cheap, beautiful sequesters, and they do a great job at it. Plant them on the west side of your house, for shade. Leave the south side treeless to let in the light and heat, especially since you'll get the most of it during spring/winter/fall when you need the extra heat. (Google passive sun heating for more information).

Deciduous trees to the south. In the summer they shade you, in the winter the leaves have fallen off, so the sun can help warm your house.

Yes! More trees! More!
Anyone ever heard of an artist called Hundertwasser? He wanted to stick trees and plants all over buildings, and did grow them all over the ones he built :) Everyone should grow more trees, I think I'll do some guerilla gardening and plant them in public places in secret ;)
More trees huzzah :D!

I wanna try Guerilla gardening sometime, but I'd have to go to a bigger town to do it (and thus, using gas). Actually, I really just want to say i've made a "seed bomb" lol.

When you really think about it though, they are not removing CO2 from the environment, they are just sequestering it. Eventually that CO2 will be moved back into the atmosphere, when that tree is eventually cut/falls down, and burned, or turned into something else.

You got that right - Tress do kick butt. I planted about 300 in the last 5 years and it sure seems like an improvement to me.
