100 Ways to Reduce Your Impact

Step 88Hotel linens/towels

Hotel linens/towels
Are you staying in a hotel for a week or so? Request that your towels and linens be washed every other day. If they are going to be used twice a day, why should they be cleaned every single day? You certainly don't do the same at home, so why have the housemaids do it at a hotel?

It wastes lots of water and electricity to power the washer machines, so request your linens to be washed every other day. Better yet, every three days.

Don't tell me you haven't seen what's on hotel linnens? Hygeine fail. Oops, look who I'm talking to. See the internet for more civilized world behaviors such as showering and using deodorant.

Better still, request that they not be laundered for the full length of your stay, which in most cases isn't all that long. Out of sheer laziness I often go months at a time without washing bed linens, and weeks without washing bath towels. I don't stink & neither does my apartment.

They also say that 85% of homeowners don't recognize their own smells! That being said, I go 1 week between washing bath towels and two weeks between sheets.
