Why would you take a 12v LED and throw away half of it to DOWNgrade it to a 1.5v one?  1.5v LEDS are cheap.

(Unless you have a free source of 12v LEDs of course???)

the led in there was a 1.5 volt led with a circuit that allowed it to run off a 12v power supply so its the same brightness only you use less power
