Introduction: 21 Unusual Uses for Pool Noodles

Here, below, are 21 really weird and unusual uses for pool noodles around your home. Pool noodles are cheap and one of the most useful backup plans in many situations. Pool noodles can be used for much more than fun in the pool. Surprisingly they are very useful and I hope you use them in the future.

Step 1: Softer Crutches

People who use crutches totally understand how uncomfortable it can be to use crutches for months. Well, to make them comfortable, use pool noodles!

How to make it:

1) Cut the pool noodle down to the length of your handle bars and armpit rests

2) Cut the side of the pool noodle to make an opening so that you can slide it onto your crutch

Step 2: Shoe Stand

Your shoe closet can definitely become a mess, especially with all your boots flopping over. Use pool noddles to prevent the mess!

How to do it:

1) Measure the height of the boot with the noodle inside and mark on the noodle where to cut

2) Take out the noodle, cut where marked, and and place cut noodle back into the boot

3) Repeat steps 1 & 2 with the other boot

Step 3: Fill a Bucket With Water

Is your sink to small and your bucket too big? Use a pool noodle!

How to do it:

1) Start by placing the bottom of a full sized noodle into the bucket you want to fill

2) Then, take the opposite end of the pool noodle and place up against the faucet, placing the hole of the noodle to the water spout

3) Turn on the water, and voila!

Step 4: Trampoline Covers

Trampoline injuries continue to rise as the heat increases. Keep your children safe by placing pool noodles on the springs of the trampoline and the metal support posts. This will help prevent concussions and injuries to your children.

How to do it:

1) Measure the length of the springs/poles and cut down the pool noodle to size

2) Slit open the side of the measured noodles and place on springs or poles

Step 5: Door Stoppers

Prevent your doors from slamming shut or from closing by putting pool noodles on the edge.

How to do it:

1) Cut a small piece of pool noodle off (doesn't have to be very big as mine was only 2 inches long in height)

2) Slit open the side of noodle to create opening

3) Slide the noodle on the side of the door and up high out of reach of children

How to do it:

1) Cut down the noodle to preferred size

2) Kneel on it and see the difference

Step 7: Shapes for Press Painting

A fun little craft for children when the get bored is press painting with pool noodle shapes.

How to do it:

1) Have an adult cut out different shapes from the pool noodles

2) Set aside a small bowl of paint to dip the shapes in

3) Dip the shapes in the paint

4) Press on to blank sheet of paper to make a master piece

Step 8: Prevent Rocking in a Rocking Chair

As many of you know, children love to swing as well as they love to rock back and fourth in chairs. To help prevent from injury, use pool noodles!

How to do it:

1) Cut a piece of pool noodle about the length of 8 inches

3) Slide the noodle onto the back legs of the rocking chair

~Best option is to slide it all the way on as the farther back you go, the more the chair can rock

Following up the previous pool noodle use, it uses the same concept for this one.

How to do it:

1) Cut the length of the pool noodle to accommodate with the length of the chair

2) Slit open the side to make an opening

3) Place onto chair to prevent holes in the wall when rocking

Step 10: Floating Bucket

How to do it:

1) Cut a pool noodle to match the length of all four sides of the bucket

2) Feed a piece of string through all four sections of the pool noodle

3) Wrap the noodles and string around the bucket and tie it off in a corner

4) Put some ice and drinks in the bucket and live on the party!

Step 11: "Luxury" Camping Bathroom

We can all say, no of us like taking a dump in the the middle of the woods without sitting on something. This is where the use of a pool noodle comes in. Just use a bucket and place noodles on top to make a comfortable outhouse for camping.

How to do it:

1) Take a large plastic/garbage bag and put it inside the bucket, opening it up and folding it over the opening of the bucket

2) Wrap the edge of the glass table with the slit pool noodles

3) Once you've wrapped the entire edge, cut off any extra noodle and have a easy and safe environment for your child

Step 13: Prevent Scratches on Your Car

2) Place noodle at least 6 inches away from the edge of the bed

Step 15: Hazards on Tent Strings

How to do it:

1) Use any length of pool noodle and a color that is bright

2) Slit the side of the noodle

Cut them into 18" lengths and fix them loosely together with para-chord. If you are going for a walk stick them in your rucksack then if you want to sit down for a rest or to enjoy a view but everything is cold or wet, lay it out and you can enjoy a warm dry bum.

Karebears (author)BobH1602017-08-12

This is definitely a great idea! Many prefer to be dry over wet. Lol.

I used them recently in a move to protect pictures. Just cut them to size with a mat knife, slit one side and slip them over th edges. Then pack them in a box. They worked perfectly.

Great job!! Here are my two uses:

1- A Small section on the lanyard of my waterproof camera makes it float instead of sink when we're on the river

2- A long section slipped over the bar of my car jack keeps it from dinging the panels.

Great ideas!

Your bucket filler idea is especially useful in early spring in northern climes, where one has to do repairs on old, hardened garden hoses ends, but not if you first soak them in very hot water! Getting hot water in sufficient quantities out into the garden can be a challenge. In addition to being flexible the pool noodles are great thermal insulators too and this should help!

Another use for them is to make DIY tires for toys, RC planes, etc.,

Thank you so much for your ideas! I'm glad that you find the bucket filler a useful one as I do so as well!

I live in Costa Rica and we use pool noodles on our air conditioner copper lines for insulation

Nice idea!

chefspenser (author)2017-07-24

Nice post thank you. We cut them in half lenghtwise & put them under our doors to stop our new kittens from sneaking into rooms. I also put them on plastic coat hangers to prevent creases on pants... cut the noodle longer than needed so they don't roll.

author
thdishmon (author)chefspenser2017-08-06

Do you cut them down so that they are no too big when you hang your pants on the hanger? Talking about kittens, I am going to get some to see if I can get them to stay on a corner my cat wants to scratch. Has anyone tried this idea.

author
chefspenser (author)thdishmon2017-08-07

Cut them so they are longer then the hanger horizontal piece, maybe a half inch...this will make them snug and not roll.

author
chefspenser (author)thdishmon2017-08-07

Don't let you cat scratch them, they scared and the kittens will try to eat them.

author
Karebears (author)chefspenser2017-07-27

You're more than welcome. Using it to block kittens is actually quite a smart idea!

author
thdishmon (author)grannyjones2017-08-06

That is a very smart idea

author
Karebears (author)grannyjones2017-07-27

That is very true.

MatthiasU (author)2017-07-30

How is #18 different from #21?

author
grannyjones (author)2017-07-27

We put a piece of noodle around the top of the windshield of a Power Wheels car so the tyke driving will avoid a painful face plant.

author
Karebears (author)grannyjones2017-07-27

Oh, that is a smart use for the noodles.

author
KVSBUNNY (author)2017-07-21

especially like the bucket filling idea, never saw that before!

Thank you so much! I've found these uses from noodles very helpful and I'm glad to share them with you!
