Use this quick fix for stopping onion and garlic skins from peeling off all over your counter.  Put them in your pantyhose and let them hang from your cabinets.  You still have easy access to them and you don't have to deal with the mess!

Tie a note between each onion, and as you use the "bottom" one, cut just below the next knot with kitchen shears, leaving the rest hanging within reach.

I saw that on a tv show once before. Yeah, it keeps them airy without touching surfaces that would encourage rot.
