Introduction: 2d to 3d Iphone Speakers

About: Product design student, Designer, Musician, DIYer.

This project was made for a class in my Product design studies(which i am now finishing). the brief was to make a simple iphone speaker that anyone can make easiely enough.

i chose to use Autocad 123D Make to fabricate the speakers since a) its free b)its easy to use c)its cool

i wanted to try to make something that would seem intersting to make with laser cut wood. the shape was arbitrary, it could go to any direction - i choose to do a pod like\alien kinda shape speakers.

i first used solidworks to model the shape, and then inserted the STL file to the 123D Make software, buy you can use a variaty of free softwares to make the shape instead of solidworks.

for the electronics part i took some cheap old iphone speakers i had and used their electronics.

Step 1: Materials and Tools

Materials:

Wood(if you laser cut it the laser cutting place will have their own)

iphone speakers to disassemble for the electronics(or build your own circuit? thats beyond my skills)

some spare cables - i had to recable the speakers conncetion one to the other

Tools:

Soldering iron

Solder(dah)

Glue - i used r21, it dries super fast! so be carefull, also with your fingers.

Laser cutter(or cut it yourself? :) )

Step 2: Get All the Parts Together

Sort them by the numbering system(made automaticly with 123d Make) and figure out the correct way to glue them.

shouldnt be too hard

Step 3: Start Glueing

glue the parts together, make sure to fit in the electronics.

BEFORE you glue make sure you soldered all the cables and such from the disassembled iphone speakers, you can also check they still work(be carefull plz)

Step 4: Final Soldering and Checking

when it starts to look nearly done check all the wires are connected and not loose, and glue the final parts

Step 5: Final Steps

Step 6: And You Are Done!

brag to your friends and enjoy :)
