#3 How to Fix or Repair Headphones with Microphone / Bass Boost (iPhone) by RichsMethods
video #3 How to Fix or Repair Headphones with Microphone / Bass Boost (iPhone)
Do you have a pair of headphones that have a microphone, bass boost, or some other feature that typical headphones don't have? This video demonstrates how to replace the plug on headphones with these features. I used Iphone earbuds that I got with my Iphone for this video demo.

The plug you will need to purchase is a TRRS. I purchased mine at (just copy and paste the link):

http://www.showmecables.com/product/3-5mm-Plug-TRRS-Connector-Metal.aspx

Here is the order description:
Part Number: 945
Description: 4 CONDUCTOR 3.5 mm PLUG WITH METAL HOUSING

The part costs $4.15 + shipping and handling. (Price may vary)

If you have any questions feel free to comment below. GOOD LUCK!!!

I have been looking for awhile for at least ONE video showing how to (if even possible) convert USB headphones to a regular 3.5mm jack setup.... Can I please get some help with this?

Thanks.

I'll look into it. I'm not totally sure how to do this yet.

That would be awesome! Or if you found an alternative.

I really appreciate you posting these videos (especially this one)! I love to be able to fix things and learn what different parts of things do. This particular video is indispensable to me because I couldn't simply replace mine:

I have wired, behind the neck, stereo headphones with mic that I love for my phone, but had shorted right at the connector point. I have looked online and at every place that sells these types of things that I happen across and can only find the ear buds (they are too unstable) type. The bluetooth version is just not as reliable and not as stable for use when active!

Thanks so much!!

I tried this to fix my Klipsch S4i and I got the sound, mic, volume adjustment and the answer/pause botton all to work perfectly.
However the red-green-white twisted cable should be seperated and only the white attached to the big bottom plate.
The red and green cables that were twisted around the white should connect together with the copper to the ground on the connector sticking out to the side.
I learned this by cutting apart and disecting the old plug and by connecting this way everything workes.

Thank you so much for posting this!!! I was wondering where to place them so that the volume adjustment would work. -Rich

The same headset can be bought for less than the plug? Including shipping.
RichsMethods (author) says: Oct 30, 2011. 5:36 PM
But not everyone who needs this plug uses this headset.

Yeah I agree, it's actually a nice idea for those who use expensive headset.
