With Chinese New Year coming soon, here is a kid-friendly craft to enjoy. Only 4 easy steps and you will be able to decorate your house with this cool 3D paper craft !

We will be making a traditional Chinese New Year paper craft of the word 春 (spring, read as Chūn) with a modern twist.

Below are instructions on making the 3D paper craft decoration.

Step 1: Materials

Materials needed:

1 piece of square shaped paper ( I used 10x10cm paper)

Note: Most of them are red as it stands for good fortune, but you can use other colors as well.

A pair of scissors
A pencil or pen
Glue
Any kind of string

Step 2: Folding the Paper

The first step is to fold the paper into the shape of a triangle.

Fold the paper in half twice to get a square 1/4 of the original paper, then fold it in half again into a small triangle.

Open the paper up and you should have the same folded marks as the picture above.

After that, fold the paper into an X(as shown in the picture).

Step 3: Drawing + Cutting Out the Pattern

After folding the paper into a triangle, you can cut out the paper as the pattern above. You can decided on the width of each stroke, giving it a different style.

Note: It is important to make sure that the side that can be opened is on the right when cutting the paper.
