Step 1: Supplies and Tools

Here is what you will need for this custom one-of-a-kind cell phone stand for your travels

  • Mini Snips
  • Sandpaper
  • Xacto Knife
  • SolidWorks software to read our .stl files
  • 3D Printer (we used the 3D printer at our local community library) Ultimaker 2+

Step 2: 3D Files

The first step to creating a phone stand is by making a .stl file, which is used to 3D print a object. You can create a .stl file or you can find a .stl file on the Internet or on Thingiverse.com. Once you have the .stl file take it and put it on a USB stick and take it to a 3D printer at your local library, vocational school, community colleges, colleges, or universities. Ask a staff member if they have a 3D printer and if they do 3D print your item. Some places require a class to be taken, so make sure to do that.

We have included our files for your use.

Step 3: After Printing

Once printing is done, take piece and carefully take off any excess plastic and sand off any rough edges.

Step 4: Assemble 3D Parts

See images how stand is assembled.

Step 5: Place Your Phone

There you have it, you have 3D printed yourself a phone stand! Pay special attention to the material and make sure that you are gentle with the pieces when putting them together. Did you face any challenges that you weren’t sure about solving? If so put them down in the comment section and say how you solved them. Thanks for reading and enjoy your phone stand!

We hope you find this useful, especially when you travel.
