These ingredients are more suggestions, you can easily make substitutions to almost everything but the bread and eggs.

You'll need:
- a microwaveable coffee cup or bowl
- bread (stale ok!)
- 1 egg
- 1-3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons of yogurt or milk
- 1-2 tablespoons of butter / margarine

Optional ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons applesauce
- 1 tsp vanilla
- dash of cinnamin

Step 2: Tear it up!

Picture of Tear it up!
Now tear up your inedible bread. I happened to have some "english muffin bread" from Trader Joe's, I think it really enhances the taste and texture since it's already kind of dense and spongy *Mmmmmmmm*

Put the pieces into the cup and set aside.

Step 3: Mix & Pour

Picture of Mix & Pour
Whisk together all remaining ingredients. If your butter is not soft enough yet, it's ok to melt it.

Pour the mixture on top of the bread. If needed, use a fork to help it along down into the crevices so it makes its way throughout the bread.

Step 4: Microwave, set and serve

Picture of Microwave, set and serve
Pop in the microwave for about 2 minutes. When it's done, let it cool for as long as you can stand it. Letting it set for a few minutes allows the flavor and texture to set in.

Once cooled to your liking, dig in and enjoy!

Looks kinda like the "MRE cobbler" we would make when deployed:

1 Packet peaches (canned peaches in syrup, basically), mix in 4 packets of sugar, and 2 packets of coffee creamer, a dash of extra water, crumble two crackers and stir into the mix, then heat with an MRE heater for 20 minutes.

Have you tried the recipe with any other canned/jarred fruits?

I had my first bread pudding about a year ago and while it was good it was not something I really liked. This however is amazing. I now make a special loaf of bread just for this.

This. Looks. Divine. I tried bread pudding in Scotland a few weeks ago, and I LOVED it. My family didn't like it very much though, so this is perfect. Thanks :)

Hi. Bread and butter pudding and bread pudding are two different things. Bread pudding is dense pudding/cake, full of dried fruit, spice, egg milk and bread. The difference is that the bread is really soaked until a pulp. It sounds awful from this, but it's delicious poor people's food. My great grandmother used to make a huge one every Monday with stale bread from the baker (free). I still make it, but you can't get free good bread any more. Boo.

This is sooooo yummy and so easy. I used sweet bread so didn't add sugar and topped off at the end with vanilla ice cream. My husband said wow this is so good!

delicious
Oh, goodness, this is delicious! I added nutmeg and cloves with the cinnamon, and used plain Greek yogurt instead of regular yogurt. I also added two fresh walnuts, broken into small pieces. It's a great little crunchy addition, especially if you're used to raisins in your bread pudding.
I'd definitely try to bump up the amount of liquid mixed together, though, especially if you're using both heels from a loaf of sandwich bread. The top half of my pudding was a little too dry for my taste.
Overall, though, a fabulous recipe. Great job!
Yay! Thanks for breakfast.

Excellent instructable! I'm eating the fruits of my labors now. One thing I noticed is that you might want to add a step when you are mixing the other ingredients. because if you cream the butter and sugar together first you will get a much smoother mixture to pour over the bread. Also i used cinnamon swirl bread it just makes the taste all the better.

Waiting for it to cool down,:)
I just made this for my husband and myself using left over hot cross buns. I didn't accurately measure my milk and I used 4 eggs. OMG this was delicious and bought a smile to hubby's face, I'm sure to be in the good books for days ;-)

Yummmy looks great. must give it a try
Our microwave is broken. :( How would I do this in an oven? I'm bad with temp/time stuff so I wouldn't know where to begin. I'm the only person in my house that likes bread pudding so it's not entirely practical to make a large batch.
Do the same thing, but toss it in the oven. If I was doing it in the oven I'd go with 350F, for about 20 minutes. Check it to make sure it doesn't burn, and get's done. 350F is a good "I don't know what to cook it at" temp.

Although, thinking about it, I am now thinking I might try this in cup cake pans, and freeze the extras.
