You woke up late! You ran out of cereal! Pancakes will take to long! Must eat breakfast!

This is my favorite "I have no good breakfast foods" dish when i have left over rice (Which is always). It's so quick and easy to make and very delicious!

Step 1: Ingredients

The ingredient list is very flexible but here is what i used:

1 cup of cooked brown rice
1/2 cup of water or soy milk (or milk)
1 tbs of butter or margarine
1-2 tbs of powered sweetener.

Step 2: Heat the Rice

First in a saucepan you want to heat the rice up with margarine and soy milk (or water), until it's hot and most of the liquid boils off.

Step 3: Add Sweetener

Next you want to add your sweetener and stir it up. I used brown sugar. Once the sugar is integrated, turn off the heat and serve!

Step 4: Serve and Eat

Next step is to throw it in a bowl and eat it! Then rush out the door because your bart train leaves in 5 minutes!

Variations on this could include dried fruit, fresh fruit or different kinds of grains.

Please show off your quick breakfasts!

I used white rice and almond milk plus some brown sugar. I used a little to much almond milk so it was like oatmeal or something!

OMG......You're eating maggots
I also like to throw in an orange peel, just be sure to take it out before serving!
Great instructable.
Oh, silly me. You also used brown sugar. Whoops. Never mind!
Hey! I'd love to make this, and was wondering if it would still turn out nicely if I were to substitute the powdered sweetener with brown sugar, and add a teaspoon of cinnamon. What do you think? Let me know. :)
This looks tastey!
me dont like--gotta cook rice PRIOR and keep how long ????????????
i have a terrible habit of skipping breakfast, Sunday tomorrow, got more time, I'm going to make this..mmm..

hey, when i make porridge (oatmeal?) i just add white sugar and finely chopped crasins (dried sweetened cranberries) another quick zap in the microwave so the berries are juicy.mmmm

so, rice, sugar and cranberries 4 breakfast tommorow

GREAT 'IBLE!
Maple syrup instead of brown or white sugar, raisins = YUM!

I added too much milk so added, as mojobo1 suggested, some rice crispies. Worked great!

Next I'm going to try the cinnamon creamer my wife uses for her coffee. Just a splash though, as that stuff is super sweet.
Now I am going to intentionally make rice at night just to make this. it looks and sounds sooo yummy. FIts that sweet tooth craving.
It's only '5 minutes fast' if you already have cooked rice on hand !
I always have rice left over. Now I'm intentionally going to have rice left over.
If you keep instant rice on hand it cooks in 3-5 min in microwave depending on power of unit.
That's part of the point of this instructable. I know a lot of people who have cooked rice on hand from left overs to making a pot of brown rice at the beginning of the week to sustain themselves.
Totally yummy with raisins in it, too. We used to eat this a lot growing up.
Rice pudding with raisins ROCKS! B-fast tomorrow.
Ewww, I don't like the image. It's looks like maggots. Nice recipe though.
maggots, mmmmm
I thought I was the only one...
i think i just found my new morning meal :)
Just a note on leftover rice - make sure it cools down quickly if you are planning on keeping it for later. A quick rinse with cold water should do the job. Don't put hot or very warm foods in the fridge as it raises the temperature inside the fridge which can cause spoilage of other foods.

Rice can contain a microbe which makes toxins at warm but not hot temperatures. These toxins aren't removed by heating, and can be lethal in large amounts - but tend to cause sickness in smaller quantities.

Otherwise, good instructable. I sometimes use a similar method to make rice pudding!
Looks yummy... Thanks for recipe!!

Might be extra good with a bit of milk poured over the top, like you would hot cereal ~ Cream of Wheat.
I couldn't upload photos until recently - but I made this a while back and it was delicious. :D Great idea!
i tried this with chocolate milk once. it was...different :)
great 'ible, anyway!
this reminds me of my childhood.
"1-2 tbs of powered sweetener."
Oh yeahhh, I do like me some powered sweetners! :D
Aactually looks really good. I'll try it.
We did the same thing when we were kids. Take the leftover rice my mom would cook and put butter, cinnamon, pinch of salt and a bit of milk. Yum!!!
When roasting some vegetables add a small pan of diced apples with crushed walnuts or pears/peaches with crushed almonds. Roast until tender soft and let cool in the fridge overnight. Add these to the rice and voila! Instant super yummy breakfast! Need a little more protein, add some cottage cheese if your diet allows. I can see doing this with quinoa too! Thanks for sharing this DIY.
All I had was honey instead of brown sugar and it tastes EXCELLENT! Thanks for the ible.
And then I tried it with brown sugar and the flavor EXPLODED IN MY MOUTH. A+++++ WOULD DO BUSINESS WITH AGAIN.
My Aunt use to fix us rice with canned pineapple and brown sugar. Thx for reminding me.

I prefer to leave the rice out and after a while it starts to wriggle.

Growing up, whenever we had lftover rice, our favorite breakfast was very simple: rice, milk, sugar, and cinnamon. I lkie it cold best.
One of our favorite foods as kids was rice with butter and brown sugar, definitely a classic. We also made a cheese sauce (white sauce + velveeta + cheddar + worch.) to go with the plain rice.
this looks delicious :D I want to try it now XD hey, does this work with white rice? (i almost always have extra of that laying around)
of course, any grain will work!
What I usually do in this situation is just put the pre-steamed white rice from an earlier dinner in a bowl with milk and brown sugar... But I can't wait to try this!
I mean no disrespect to the author but this doesn't deserve to be featured. You are reheating rice and adding sweetener where is higher level thinking here. I would like to know the standard used by scoochmaroo to measure its "feature worthiness". On a more positive note your pics came out good for bring from a phone.
I made pretty much this exactly for breakfast the other day. went to make some oatmeal and found out i was out of oats, but i had plenty of rice. a handfull of raisins, some dates, a bit of brown sugar and some spices later it was delicious.
Hey, it's Gluten Free +1 points for you!
i tried this one time before, I was making rice but made waaaaaaaaay to much so i experimented and tried to make rice pudding by adding sugar and cinnamon to it, and the result was similar to oatmeal, it was pretty good... mmmmmmmmmm
This sounds very good, and I'm thinking of adding some kind of cereal (I know the purpose of this was in case you ran OUT of cereal.. But hey, it sounds good), maybe puffed rice or something. .When I was little I used to take leftover rice, add a bit of milk, some sugar (Or honey), then cinnamon! It was really good for dessert
sounds really good actually, quick and easy and filling. I'll give it a shot!
