You woke up late! You ran out of cereal! Pancakes will take to long! Must eat breakfast!

This is my favorite "I have no good breakfast foods" dish when i have left over rice (Which is always). It's so quick and easy to make and very delicious!

I also like to throw in an orange peel, just be sure to take it out before serving!

Great instructable.
Deliquium says: Aug 21, 2012. 7:51 PM
Oh, silly me. You also used brown sugar. Whoops. Never mind!
Deliquium says: Aug 21, 2012. 7:48 PM
Hey! I'd love to make this, and was wondering if it would still turn out nicely if I were to substitute the powdered sweetener with brown sugar, and add a teaspoon of cinnamon. What do you think? Let me know. :)
Pamie-Sky says: May 27, 2012. 10:25 AM
This looks tastey!

Maple syrup instead of brown or white sugar, raisins = YUM!

I added too much milk so added, as mojobo1 suggested, some rice crispies. Worked great!

Next I'm going to try the cinnamon creamer my wife uses for her coffee. Just a splash though, as that stuff is super sweet.

Now I am going to intentionally make rice at night just to make this. it looks and sounds sooo yummy. FIts that sweet tooth craving.
iac says: Jul 14, 2010. 8:40 PM
It's only '5 minutes fast' if you already have cooked rice on hand !
yanksguy in reply to iacNov 27, 2011. 9:08 AM
I always have rice left over. Now I'm intentionally going to have rice left over.
dulciquilt in reply to iacSep 10, 2010. 8:59 AM
If you keep instant rice on hand it cooks in 3-5 min in microwave depending on power of unit.

That's part of the point of this instructable. I know a lot of people who have cooked rice on hand from left overs to making a pot of brown rice at the beginning of the week to sustain themselves.
Ogredude says: Aug 13, 2011. 8:04 AM
Totally yummy with raisins in it, too. We used to eat this a lot growing up.
yanksguy in reply to OgredudeNov 27, 2011. 9:06 AM
Rice pudding with raisins ROCKS! B-fast tomorrow.

Just a note on leftover rice - make sure it cools down quickly if you are planning on keeping it for later. A quick rinse with cold water should do the job. Don't put hot or very warm foods in the fridge as it raises the temperature inside the fridge which can cause spoilage of other foods.

Rice can contain a microbe which makes toxins at warm but not hot temperatures. These toxins aren't removed by heating, and can be lethal in large amounts - but tend to cause sickness in smaller quantities.

Otherwise, good instructable. I sometimes use a similar method to make rice pudding!

Looks yummy... Thanks for recipe!!

Might be extra good with a bit of milk poured over the top, like you would hot cereal ~ Cream of Wheat.

I couldn't upload photos until recently - but I made this a while back and it was delicious. :D Great idea!

We did the same thing when we were kids. Take the leftover rice my mom would cook and put butter, cinnamon, pinch of salt and a bit of milk. Yum!!!

When roasting some vegetables add a small pan of diced apples with crushed walnuts or pears/peaches with crushed almonds. Roast until tender soft and let cool in the fridge overnight. Add these to the rice and voila! Instant super yummy breakfast! Need a little more protein, add some cottage cheese if your diet allows. I can see doing this with quinoa too! Thanks for sharing this DIY.

And then I tried it with brown sugar and the flavor EXPLODED IN MY MOUTH. A+++++ WOULD DO BUSINESS WITH AGAIN.

My Aunt use to fix us rice with canned pineapple and brown sugar. Thx for reminding me.

Growing up, whenever we had lftover rice, our favorite breakfast was very simple: rice, milk, sugar, and cinnamon. I lkie it cold best.
icebird says: Jul 16, 2010. 6:33 AM
One of our favorite foods as kids was rice with butter and brown sugar, definitely a classic. We also made a cheese sauce (white sauce + velveeta + cheddar + worch.) to go with the plain rice.
bigfangirl says: Jul 15, 2010. 12:29 PM
this looks delicious :D I want to try it now XD hey, does this work with white rice? (i almost always have extra of that laying around)
frenzy (author) in reply to bigfangirlJul 15, 2010. 11:14 PM

of course, any grain will work!
Mikedood says: Jul 15, 2010. 5:08 PM
What I usually do in this situation is just put the pre-steamed white rice from an earlier dinner in a bowl with milk and brown sugar... But I can't wait to try this!
armourkris says: Jul 14, 2010. 9:09 PM
I made pretty much this exactly for breakfast the other day. went to make some oatmeal and found out i was out of oats, but i had plenty of rice. a handfull of raisins, some dates, a bit of brown sugar and some spices later it was delicious.
