I made this cake multiple times now and can report that it is tasty but the texture is different from anything I have ever had. The texture is more spongy than I would think a cake would be.

probably from the microwave

I just made this, and OH MY! Quite possibly my new favourite for a quick sweet snack =P I love baking and all anyway, but this is just so simple and tastes GORGEOUS! I think I'm in love... =-D

It was a bit dry so i added some butter the next time i made it and that did a lot to moisten it. Plus you might want to spray the cup and mix all the stuff in a bowl then put it it so it doesn't stick. that's what i did. Hope that helps! Was really yummy! (:

I just made this cake and it was simply delicious! It was my first successful cake in a long time... TIP: Top with whipping cream for extra deliciousness.

Sound like you over-cooked it.

I just made it but I was skeptical about it and only had a little, it tasted good, but was squidgy, so i threw it out, but Oh my... I'm not feeling very good... v_v

I just made it and I have no idea what I did wrong. YUCK! It had almost no flavor and was very slippery feeling. I made it the first time and thought it was to liquid so I made it again with more dry ingredients. It wasnt much better. I really dont know if I made it wrong or what.

Hi, just wanted to update on my problem (the same as yours). Try following the comment below and replace the egg (all of it, though I was skeptical at first) with 1/4 tbsp of baking powder, and add a touch more milk. I did that and it came out absolutely amazing. Also, cut down the baking time and it comes out more fudgy and almost like a fall-apart brownie. I baked mine for just under 2 mins on an 800w microwave and it's perfect (sitting eating it right now ^_^). It won't turn out as well as I'd hoped, but the taste definitely makes up for it!

Not sure but I think whatever mistake you made, I must've made it too. I just made it myself and it came out with a rubbery texture and I can't even taste the chocolate.

I think you're using too much egg. I recommend substituting 1/4 tablespoon of Baking powder for the egg.

Thanks! I did just that, added a touch more milk (maybe half a tbsp?) and cut down the baking time to around 2 mins in an 800w microwave and it came out perfect!

3 to 4 scoops of coco for a stronger cake. But delicious, nonetheless.
theophilus says: Jun 11, 2010. 10:26 AM
this is a great recipe! it's funny, the bubbles on the bottom of the cup are huge, and you should've seen how the cake rose a few inches above the cup (I'm using a bigger mug next time) my only issue are the mild flavor (I like strong chocolate) and the egginess of the texture (it's like a very dense popover)
Airieanna says: Jun 11, 2010. 9:35 AM
I just made this a few moments ago and I must say it's not bad. The texture is quite strange, but for a cheap and quick fix for a chocolate craving, I approve ^^ I think next time I won't add in the dark chocolate chips, though..
