5-Minute Project: Drill-Powered Skateboard by PopSci
Featured
Do you have a skateboard that is gathering dust in the corner of your garage? Breathe some new life into those wheels by zapping them with some volts. Specifically, attaching a battery-powered electric drill to the front of your skateboard will provide effortless nosegrinding and endless hours of fun.

Three factors will enhance your battery-powered skateboarding:

1. More Volts. Higher voltage battery-powered drills (at least 9.6V) will provide more minutes of skateboarding fun.

2. Greater Torque. Drills that can generate more torque will be able to move, ahem, heavier riders.

3. Big, Bad Rubber Wheel. The more rubber that meets the highway, the higher the performance.

This doesn't work on a real skateboard. the axle shouldn't rotate.
daggerofblood1243 says: Jul 3, 2011. 11:34 PM
coulden't you just take out the motor and attach it up to da wheel then put a foot peadal switch on the the battery and solder all dat up???( a little more complicated)

Great Idea and very innovative. This is very best idea to bring in use the waste. now like this one, the skateboard with the power of battery and drill machine have become a nice play thing for children. But i am thinking can we do this for kick scooters as well . Am interested in trying this idea once to my skaeboard. This will be fun.

It'd be better with a system that lets you stand up.
jsilve1 says: Jul 12, 2009. 11:11 AM

Wesley666 says: Aug 25, 2009. 6:59 PM
You could. I have a drill that we put a long metal rod through with people on either end because it you don't and it gets stuck it will flip you on your @55 so fast you won't know what happened. I think it would break your arm first, but it has a 2 3/4hp electric motor I think....but its not cordless... :(

what is salvaged?
inventordude14 says: Jan 23, 2010. 3:10 PM
salvaged pretty much means from ebay or the dump
MaXoR says: May 31, 2010. 3:26 PM
Or to take from something broken, and put into something working. Broken stereo has motors, use motors to power small helicopter model.... that would be "salvaging the motors".
carrotman42 says: Sep 14, 2009. 11:35 AM
what part or definition?
Odziz says: Sep 1, 2007. 5:30 PM
This goes one step further, a drill-powered bike. 'This Old House' beats 'PopSci' hands down!

Would be quite neat if it was combined with the 8020 Chopper.

Damn, that's slooooooooowww. I remember when I used to skateboard, I had legs to use. They don't make 'em like they used to (kids, that is).
halberdear says: Jan 1, 2009. 2:03 PM
dude if you think they make all skateboards like that u should see mine.
cornflaker says: Jan 28, 2009. 12:21 AM
They don't make 'em like they used to (kids, that is).
shooby says: Jan 28, 2009. 6:14 AM
I already said that cornfaker.
toogers says: Jul 11, 2009. 10:52 PM
lol cornfaker
shooby says: Jul 12, 2009. 12:18 AM
Yes, I like names. Because I can subtly tear them apart. Alors! Cornflaker est soudainement cornfaker. This pertains to the origins of cornflakes of course. The Kellogg brothers, those god fearing wackos! Ok, oven puffed corn with delicious milk makes even me feel pure. But, the Kellogg brothers used spiked anti-masturbatory rings on prepubescent boys. Come on. Cornflaker! Your name encompasses the legacy of masochistic pedophiles with too much spare time, too much access to a machine shop, and too much corn.
cornflaker says: Jan 29, 2009. 12:46 AM
Dude I quoted what you said (that would be why its all italic and then made the kids part bold) because halberdear thought you were talking about skate boards not kids... Might want to read those comments again...
shooby says: Jan 29, 2009. 6:21 AM
Ah, I thought haldberdear meant that he'd made his own version of this instructable, and that it was faster...
cornflaker says: Jan 29, 2009. 11:13 PM
Ahh lol
magganrchy says: Apr 6, 2007. 9:05 PM
That doesn't look really fast... is it faster? I understand if she was going slow because she's little.
Ceiling cat says: Apr 3, 2010. 8:04 PM

That's because it's a photo-mantage.  They just took a few pics and edited them into a video.  It's not a "motion picture" if you will.  More like a slide-show.

cornflaker says: Jan 29, 2009. 11:14 PM
I would certainly hope so... lol
