Step 1: UNLOCK SHOPPING CART WITHOUT a COIN

If you find yourself in a situation where you haven't got any change and you can't get a shopping cart, don't panic use your house key instead. Round key is about the same size as one pound coin. You can unlock cart with it and pull it out. carry on shopping.

Step 2: DRY SOCKS IN 5 MINUTES

If you need to go out, but all your socks are still wet after doing your laundry? simply grab a hair dryer and put your sock onto it. Turn a hair dryer on and in less than 5 minutes your socks will be dry.

Step 3: MAKE AN ASHTRAY/ TEA-LIGHT HOLDER

Grab an empty can from beer or coke, gut it in half, then cut strips like shown. Roll strips backwards like shown and there you have it within few minutes you have made a candle holder, it can also be used as an ashtray.

Step 4: CUT VEGETABLES WITHOUT CUTTING YOURSELF

Take a plastic card, preferably the one you don't need, cut it in half. take two rubber bands and attach these halves to your thumb and pointer finger. now you can cut vegetables without worrying about cutting yourself.

Step 5: LEAVE NO STREAKS WHEN CLEANING

As you can tell in first two pictures, after wiping surfaces with kitchen towel, there are some streaks that look bad. instead of using kitchen towels use window squeegee. it's a lot quicker and leaves no streaks.

What country are you from? I have never encountered these issues. Who charges for a shopping cart?

I Don't Know About In The USA But In Canada They Charge You EVERYWHERE

In southeast Pennsylvania there are a lot of grocery stores and such using this method. Kind of makes sure you return the cart to the proper place to get your quarter back.

In Europe, almost all shopping carts work like that. You put a coin to get the cart, and you've finish your shopping you put the chart back in the line and you get your coin back.

only one store in the US requires a quarter for a cart: Aldi. You get the coin back, here in the US.

I particularly like the hack to cut vegetables. I'm forever cutting myself if I cut too fast, or cutting very slowly to prevent it.

A hair dryer works well for drying socks, bras, and panties, but much better if wet clothes are rolled up first with a dry bath towel and "danced" on to move most of the water from wet undies to towel.

author
DIY ZE (author)grannyjones2016-02-29

yes. that's another trick that helps

author
ReverendN (author)2016-02-29

what about places like aldi that swap your shopping cart for another one at checkout? the person after you gets screwed out of a quarter and you steal someones quarter. i hit aldi 2 times a week for fresh veggies. 50 cents a week times 52 weeks a year. its not a hack, its theft.

I disagree with the card/knife hack. Let alone you loose any feeling for the thickness of the cut I'd simply feel disabled with those wobbly stripes attached to my fingers. Instead bend your index and middle finger slightly so the blade will not touch the nails but only slide along the middle of your fingers. As long as you keep the blade in touch you will be absolutely safe. It takes a bit of exercise. All chefs around the world use this technique.
