Step 1: Supplies

TOOLS:

INGREDIENTS:
  • 4 tablespoons flour - make sure you measure it right - or the cake is a lie!
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 tablespoons whisked egg - 1 egg is too much, 1 egg white is too eggy, 1 yolk is too dense, but 2 tblsp is just right!
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 3 tablespoons chocolate chips
  • splash vanilla or other flavoring - try peppermint or cinnamon
For a fudgier version, omit egg.

Instructoider says: Jul 17, 2010. 5:13 PM
I just made an account to tell you people the cake is not a lie! You can get the cake at the end... you have to fight for it but it is worth it (chocolate cake)!
chubby8 says: Jul 7, 2010. 9:22 AM
i made a one of these in a big bow, and it worked!!! few more minutes to make but worth it. the microwave doesent completly cook it though but leaves a lushious gooey center. 10/10!!!

Scoochmaroo, I love all your stuff :O

This also works really well with the same amounts of gluten free self raising flour (I live in England and got mine from Doves Farm) and soya milk!
My mum was well pleased, she's coeliac and lactose intolerant :D

Awesome!
sid_bet in reply to scoochmarooMay 12, 2010. 2:57 AM
can it be done without the microwave ? like using a pressure cooker ?
AbstractDragon in reply to sid_betJun 20, 2010. 3:23 PM
You might be able to use a conventional oven or a toaster oven.
ZeroError in reply to scoochmarooJan 25, 2010. 4:07 PM
It also worked by replacing cocoa powder with ground almonds and sticking some almond essence in. Which was nice.
ZeroError says: Nov 25, 2009. 9:45 AM
Another non-chocolate version is as follows (I wasn't very precise, so caution should be exercised):
Replace the cocoa powder with a tablespoon and a half of almond powder.
Add a little more flour and sugar (perhaps a teaspoon each, maybe less).
Add a few drops of almond oil.

And it tastes really good :D
Purple Guy in reply to ZeroErrorMay 21, 2010. 1:46 PM
you really like almonds don't you :D

People... not to be a poopy poster, but... is this for just ONE person? I just pasted the ingredient list on one of those calorie calculators (see for example http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_analysis.php), and got an incredible 929 calories per serving, 503 from fat alone!

If you are like me (i.e. you sit in front of a PC for 8 hours, and work out twice, three times a week), this dessert alone represents approximately 50% of your daily calorie intake. Unless of course you're Michael Phelps, in which case you can down 8,800 kCals a day with no ill effects...

Can we please have a "lower cal" version? :-)
scoochmaroo (author) in reply to lcottaMay 5, 2010. 3:40 PM
Haha!  Ok, beside the ability to cut this recipe in half (it is a HUGE portion), you want a low-fat 5 minute chocolate cake?!
I like where this is going.  Consider challenge accepted.

The cake is not a lie!

THIS IS AMAZING THANK YOU

Awesome! This is perfect for after school! I <3 the recipe!

Being vegan, I wanted to try this, so I modified the recipe. Here is what I used. Worked great.
  • 4 tablespoons unbleached flour
  • 4 tablespoons unbleached cane sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
  • 3 tablespoons soy milk
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 3 tablespoons vegan chocolate chips
  • splash vanilla or other flavoring - try peppermint or cinnamon

Not to different. I actually just omitted the egg, used soymilk instead. Then I just used vegan versions of everything else.

 its soooooooooooo tasty!!! and fast
Infectious99 says: Feb 9, 2010. 6:16 PM
Thanks!
Really easy to make and it's quick and rather quite tasty.
I made 2 cups of cake, both without the egg and it's mmm chocolaty. Requires some milk to get it down though, hah.

The second cup I made I tried adding just short of a table spoon of peanut butter and it actually came out pretty good, tasty as always!

I took a picture with my phone but it's being rather picky and won't show up.

Anyhow, thanks a bunch, I was craving something chocolaty and baking brownies and the likes isn't something I'm good at. This fixed me up good!

If your cake isnt chocolately enough for you add another tbsp of cocoa powder. I also use white chocolate chips and cocunut for something a little extra and it turns out amazing
michaelgohjs says: Feb 3, 2010. 10:46 PM
oh.. and if u put in some chocolate cereals and bake it slightly longer it becomes a cake/biscuit hybrid which is realy nice too
michaelgohjs says: Feb 3, 2010. 10:45 PM
i m a boy aged 17 who kinda likes baking but seldom does it
so i made 1 today to "test it" and wow... sure taste good
i plan to make 1 for my dad's birthday tomorrow
i used your basic recipe and added some of my own idea and wow!! sure taste good
but abit hard... think i microwaved it too long

Is it better to use Self Rising Flour of All Purpose Flour?
ZeroError in reply to jesusfreakgirl93Nov 25, 2009. 9:11 AM
Seems to work best with self raising.
Shadowpom says: Oct 29, 2009. 8:32 AM
The chocolate chips sink unless you coat them in flour.  Good cake though.
dungeon runner says: Oct 13, 2009. 2:17 PM
This...Is..delicious...

And I've never even baked a cake before. Really cool instructable. I've a few more things to say about the recipe, though...
1) Mix properly. Then Mix it some more. I can't stress how important the mixing is. (First time I tried it, there was a big lump of flour at the bottom.)
2) Vanilla. The cake is so much better with the splash of vanilla at the end. It's heaven in a mug, I tell you.
3) Eat with joy.
xadevox says: Jul 14, 2009. 6:53 AM
do u need chocolate chip?
steven.exe in reply to xadevoxJul 14, 2009. 9:39 PM
From my experience (above) yes. I tired to compensate with more cocoa and sugar... but it didn't really help. (and then i added more flour like a dufus and messed it all up.. but frosting fixed it! haha)
M!dn!8ht_Sun in reply to steven.exeAug 26, 2009. 11:13 AM
lol, of course.... Frosting fixes everything.
Kryptonite in reply to M!dn!8ht_SunSep 13, 2009. 1:48 AM
Except for if you were fat. Don't try to sugar coat it; you'd eat that too.
techcook says: Aug 10, 2009. 1:56 AM
can u use nesquik chocolate milk powder
AaronJBobb says: Aug 6, 2009. 11:02 AM
Very good! Im om nom noming on some cake as I type. I found adding 1/4 of a teaspoon of baking powder makes a much fluffier cake.
L.X. B0B0MAN says: Aug 1, 2009. 6:56 PM
Heh I made the cake and improvised a bit I made it into a bowl instead of a mug doubled most of the ingredients. Added a tad of milo and ginger and some nutmeg, didn't taste as good as I thought it would so I added some icing sugar and stuck lego guys in it and toy soldiers

 yeah mythbusters!

oh and also my motto: when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. if life doesn't give you water and sugar your lemonade's going to suck!
