Step 4 Prepare the display

Now take the matrix display and bend its legs as well. You can use a piece of plastic to bend the legs over it. That may make is easier.

I've read the code but I don't get when the program chooser between an animation or an text message. could you explain? thanks

The mode is read from eeprom storage with
mode = eeprom_read_byte(&mode_ee);
This mode is used to determine, which message or animation to run.
Then it is written back to eeprom with
eeprom_write_byte(&mode_ee, mode + 1);
which means, next time your start it, it runs the next message or animation.
