Note:a very simple conversion to USB. Just replace the battery cap with the USB port. The negative of the port should be to your left, while inserting. Same circuit works with 5V (USB) or a 6V battery or a 9V battery, as pictured.

Read again, carefully - when you "replace the battery cap" with a USB, it becomes usb powered, wherein you insert it in the USB slot.
The USB slot is 5V, with the negative wire to your extreme left, while inserting and positive to the extreme right. the middle two unused wires are for data, which we dont use.
Anyone who has tried a USB based project knows it...
