A Working Silencer for Your CO2 Airsoft Gun

 by destructables43
Ever wondered why a trombone is fluted at the end? Well, I can tell you that its not just for looks. When the sound waves are traveling through the pipe they bounce back and fourth against the walls of the pipe. When they get to the fluted end they move a further distance and they become louder. This silencer works on the same principle, but backwards.
NOTE: This will not work too good on a springer, but will still look cool
ANOTHER NOTE: i know that my silencer on my gun looks pretty retarded, but i got bored one day and decided to make it a rifle(im gonna add a extendable, foldable, stock, hey, another 'ible lol).

Uh... You should be really careful about where you take this. These homemade silencers are very illegal. Don't brandish it in any public place, or take it out to a friends house where people can see you from the back yard or something.

um... the real type ofsilenc3ers have an inner tube and outer tube.inner tube is the tube with the holes.the outer tube is the tube with out holes.

Hey I know it might be hard but wouldn't it be quieter if you added baffles?
good 'ible.

i thought that was some kind of rc airsoft robot
genius245 says: Feb 16, 2010. 4:19 PM
That hacksaw looks like it would make a pretty cool stock for that pistol. (With a little modding.)
superridley says: Aug 18, 2009. 7:47 PM
How well would it work on a spring gun?
Whaleman in reply to superridleySep 6, 2009. 10:32 PM
That depends. Is the sound coming from the rapid expansion of compressed air escaping the confines of the barrel and into the expanses of wherever it is you're shooting it, or is it from the plunger hitting the front of your gun? Spring guns (I'm assuming that you're talking about one of those $5 spring pistols) generally don't have too much air being compressed when they are fired, so they are already pretty quiet compared to a CO2 or Green Gas powered gun. tl;dr- Probably not as well as you want.
bighead5454 in reply to WhalemanNov 2, 2009. 2:48 PM
technically springs do use pressurized air but the sound dosent come from that it comes from the spring hitting the plastic at the end of the pressurising tube thingy
Whaleman in reply to bighead5454Nov 2, 2009. 4:51 PM
I didn't say that they didn't; I just said that they used less than a CO2 powered gun.

You should probably also paint the end bright orange so that it wouldn't be illegal :O
DrWeird117 says: Aug 5, 2009. 3:46 PM
Oh, goody. Hopefully it'll fit in the muzzle of a 15XT.
san475 says: Jul 30, 2009. 4:15 PM
you put a foregrip on your pistol? thats so crazy it just might work... :)
brettcool94 says: Jul 10, 2009. 2:52 PM
yea well I made one and well its not the best but it does really cut down on the sound and it looks really cool. but I added cloth to the inside and some tissue and it really didn't do anything. but if you do make a silencer make sure it has 2 tubes the inner 1 has to have holes in it and don't put holes in the outer tube wrap the inner tube in tissue then cloth and insert it into the outer tube.

maybe if you cut the bigger end of a CO2 canister it could fit on the gun an act like a silencer
chi chi chippy says: Apr 8, 2009. 2:29 PM
does it improve accuracy or make it worse?
destructables43 (author) in reply to chi chi chippyJun 3, 2009. 1:43 PM
dosnt affect is as far as i can tell
Nattwood says: Apr 30, 2009. 4:32 AM
still looks kool tho
Nattwood says: Apr 30, 2009. 4:31 AM
ok im sorry to tell you but u have it the wrong way around. this may look kool but the holes have to be on the inner one and the outer one is solid or else it wont work. By putting the holes on the inside one the sound wave escape slightly into the outer section and with the foam it holds them there. i hope that this works for you.

Silencer on my TF-11 (co2, full-auto, blow-back). Doesn't do anything for sound though, probably because of the open bolt.

Trombones and trumpets are not "fluted" at the end. It's called a bell. You have the right idea, but wrong terms.
destructables43 (author) in reply to S1L3N7 SWATDec 20, 2008. 6:07 PM
ya my music teacher told me how it all works a while ago but i couldent remember all the correct terms
S1L3N7 SWAT in reply to destructables43Dec 21, 2008. 4:30 PM
Ah, no problem. I'm a huge band nerd and Trombone is one of the instruments I play, so when I saw that I freaked. I play airsoft too, I might try this for my CO2 USP, thing is way loud.
