A fast way to Rip DVDs

A fast way to Rip DVDs
In the instructable I am going to show a quick and easy way to rip DVDs.
I came across this method today while browsing the internet.

Although this method might not be suitable for some people it is perfect for me. Basically my school library only lets you rent 1 DVD at a time, and for 1 day so i needed a way so that i could get as many out in one day. The initial process only takes about 20-30 minutes, but then the next step takes about an hour each.

ok, lets get started

oh yeh, i forgot, if you do this and then sell them or make copies it is illegal and you can get prosecuted and/or fined. In England it is not illegal to back up DVDs but it is to sell them or to reproduce them.

DVD Shrink is freeware that can be obtained here. It is very simple to use and probably doesnt need describing how to use, but ill do it anyway.

I'm sorry that I don't have any screen shots, I will put some up when I rip another DVD.

First you will have to decide whether you want to Backup the whole DVD or just the main movie feature. I always backup the main DVD but if you want to illegally reproduce it then you can copy the whole thing. I haven't put any pictures up for this method as it is easier than the latter and I never use it.
Backing up the whole DVD:
Open DVD Shrink
Click Open Disk
It should then Analyse the disk which doesnt take long.
then goto the end of this step.

Backing up just the main feature:
Click Re-Author
Select your DVD drive
Then it should have a many files and there should be section called Main Menu and then Title 1
Click and drag Title 1 to the left and side of the window where it has DVD structure at the top.
This will then Analyse which doesn't take too long.
then goto the end of this step

The end of this step:
First you will want to select what soundtracks you want and also Subtitles. I always deselect all Subtitle tracks and all but English audio tracks.
Now click Backup
Then there will be a popup window with different settings telling you how you can save it and Region code it.
Choose where you want to save it
Then you can choose whether you want it in ISO or File format. Again I always use ISO.
The click Ok and it will start copying. It normally takes 10-20 mins on my computer.
When it has finished you can either leave it like that as a backup or convert it into your favourite format (DivX, mp4 etc.).
To convert it go to the next step.

Nice, it is really helpful. Now I will share with you an all-in-one converter. With this only one converter, you can convert both DVD and any video to any video and audio formats.
It also has strong editing functions.

You can use DVD Decrypter to rip ISO images, and DVD Shrink to resize and burn them with Nero. This method allows retention of all menus and extras. If you set it up properly, DVD Shrink launches Nero to do the burn. I have used this method for 4 years, it hasn't let me down yet. A few newer movies have needed DVDFab HD Decrypter to rip, but only a few.

so then whats the difference in all of the profiles?
Dec 6, 2008. 3:17 PMunderwhelmed says:
Sorry, forgot to mention DVD Decrypter also removes region code and takes about 20 minutes on my old Celeron 2.4 Ghz Desktop. The DVD Shrink takes about 25 minutes to resize and once Nero is launched, it usually takes 5 minutes to burn.

I figured that might be a RR, but after that link, I'm wondering if the other links to the freeware are really viruses and trojans :/ Hrm. I was all excited, too.

DVD Shrink is a great tool. But it does not work on newer movies. You get a Cyclic Redundancy Check error when you try to open the DVD. Does anyone know of a work around?

Just remember, you aren't ripping dvd's you're "backing them up" I've never had much luck with those programs so I'll stick with what I know. Netflix is a great source of dvd rentals and you can get more than 1 at a time too.
