ALIEN ABDUCTION NITE LITE

If Mom likes novelty items, this is something you can make for her than you can't buy at the store - her very own Alien Abuduction Nite Lite with a removable flying (powered by crochet thread) space ship!

While Shaun the Sheep is larger than the ship and it doesn't seem like it would be possible for the UFO to abduct him, keep in mind it is alien advanced technology at work here.

All of the items to make this you can either get at dollar store or likely have lying around your house already.

I only spent $3 to make this lamp at Dollar Tree - $1 for the mini touch light, $1 for AAA batteries and $1 for the glass

My inspiration for this project was Heather of Dollar Store Crafts creation: http://dollarstorecrafts.com/2009/03/alien-lamp/comment-page-1/#comment-1241

Step 1: Items needed

ss1 equipment.jpg
Items needed:

For Spaceship:
Large Plastic Easter Egg
2 CDs
Mini touch light (I bought mine at the Dollar Tree)
3 AAA batteries*
Glue Gun and glue sticks
9001 Glue or other craft glue (to glue the CD's together)
Cardboard (I used the side off a 24 pack of Diet Coke)
Aluminum foil
Tin can or other object that is about 1/2 in around larger than the circumference of your plastic egg
Crochet thread (or other strong thread to string through the top of the UFO)

For Shaun the Sheep
Cotton (mine was from an asprin bottle, but you could use cotton balls)
Mini-plastic Easter Egg
Black and White acrylic paint
2 googly eyes
Red and white fabric paint
4 pen caps
Black Felt
Glue Gun and glue sticks

For the rest of the light:
Glass (this one is a plastic one from Dollar Tree is clear with green around the top that gives it an eerie glow).
Forest Gren Felt (for the grass)
Plastic lid (to glue the "grass" on to)
9001 glue or other strong, clear glue
12 oz can of soda
Pen
Scissors

*If lamp is to be left on overnight, I would suggest investing in rechargeable batteries.

Who came first? I think these guys owe Heather an apology at the very least.

Hi! The link above is for the original idea! I saw the project when it was in its conceptual phase and made the dollar store version of it because it wasn't for sale yet. I checked with them before i posted my project! :)

Hope that clears it up!

I had not seen the above referenced site before, but  it is pretty cool.

I don't know who's project came first - I remember she had referenced a different site with a larger spaceship like what she had made, not the little one like I did.

I don't think she would be offended as she runs a site, www.dollarstorecrafts.com that features creations made from dollar store items and I did share what I made with her when I made it and that her creation was my inspiration.

Really cool lamp. I love how the sheep has a surprised look on his face. I may have to make one of these.

i did this but made some modifications 1. the sheep is hanging from top of cup by some fishing line 2. used materials only from around home, used old xmas lights, paper bowls, old paint, plastic starbucks cup and so on

I like it! But don't space-aliens prefer cows...?

Yes, in general, space aliens prefer cows; however, my aliens haven't graduated up to cows and are only allowed to conduct experiments on sheep after practicing on rabbits.

Well I suppose even space-aliens have to learn...

No, but that site shows the exact same inspiration that I indicated above from Dollar Store Crafts.  http://dollarstorecrafts.com/2009/03/alien-lamp

The one from Dollar store Crafts involved two bowls painted black with a hole in the bottom with the inards of large touch light in the center.   It is cute but you would need a saw tool to cut out the bottom of the bowl.

This one is more like the baby ship - it is a much smaller spaceship made with a mini-touch light, no special tool is required - ship is made out of a part of a plastic Easter Egg, CDs, cardboard and the mini-touch light), the spaceship is removable and could be a craft on its own (although the left over sheep under an upside down glass would look funny!).

That's so funny, what a clever idea!
