Introduction: STEAM PUNK / DIESEL ALIEN AREA 51 "ALIEN ON GUARD"

Picture of STEAM PUNK / DIESEL ALIEN AREA 51 "ALIEN ON GUARD"

WELL THE STORY BEHIND THIS ONE STARTED WITH MY WIFE LEAVING ME HOME WITH MY DAUGHTER WHEN SHE WENT SHOPPING.

MY DAUGHTER SAID HEY DAD, DO YOU THINK THAT LAMP LOOKS LIKE SPIDER MANS HEAD OR AN ALIEN?

i SAID WELL I CAN'T DO SPIDER MAN BUT I CAN SURE DO ALIEN LOL AND THUS THE PROJECT STARTED, LUCKY FOR ME THE MATCHING LAMP WAS DOWN STAIRS NOT BEING USED...

Step 1:

Picture of

THE FIRST THING WAS TO TAKE APART THE LAMP AND SAND IT DOWN THEN START GOING THROUGH MY PARTS BOX TO SEE WHAT I COULD COME UP WITH, PARTS WERE SET ASIDE AND THE JAW WAS DRAWN ON PLASTIC (SEE THROUGH) THEN LAYED OVER MY OLD COOLING FINS FROM A STEREO AND CUT OUT, MIRRORED FOR THE OTHER JAW SIDE AS WELL, THEN THE REST OF THE BTM AND TOP TEETH WERE PICKED AND MADE FROM OTHER PARTS FROM A TAPE DECK AND A PC OF THE COOLING FINS BENT CUT AND SHAPED LIKE TEETH.

IT WAS ALL TAPED OR HOT GLUED AND THEN THE HOLES DRILLED IN TO THE LAMP BODY.

THE NEXT STEP WAS TO GET SOME KIND OF TEXTURE TO THE LAMP BODY SO I COVERED IT IN WHITE TACKY GLUE WITH MY FINGERS AND A SAND WHICH BAG TO GIVE IT SOME CREVICES AND WRINKLES AND TEXTURE.

Step 2:

THE NEXT STEP WAS TO SPRAY THE LAMP/ALIEN WITH MY BASE COLOR ( I PICKED A COPPER)  LET IT DRY.

THE NEXT STEP WAS TO PAINT IT A DESIRED ALIEN COLOR THIS IS THE 2ND TIME TO SPRAY OR USE A BRUSH LIKE I DID TO JUST PUT ON A LIGHT COAT. YOU JUST WANT TO PUT A LIGHT COAT ON AS YOU WILL BE SANDING MOST OF IT OFF  WITH 400 OR 600 GRADE PAPER, TO REVEAL THE BASE COLOR, BUT SHOWING SOME TEXTURE FROM THE GLUE AND YOUR ALIEN COLOUR YOU PICKED (DON'T SAND IT DOWN TO MUCH).

NEXT STEP WAS TO CLEAR COAT THE ALIEN/LAMP  TO MAKE IT LOOK BETTER, I USED A FLAT COPPER AND A FLAT GREEN SO IT DIDN'T LOOK TO GOOD UNTIL I CLEARED IT.

Step 3:

NOW THAT YOUR LAMP/ALIEN IS DRY YOU CAN START TO ADD THE PARTS TO FINISH IT.
EYES ARE OLD CAMERA LENS,OLD STEREO MOTOR HOUSING AND CLOCK GEAR RIVETED COVERED BY AN OLD STEREO SPEAKER SCREEN I CUT IN A CIRCLE. .

NOTE IF I NEED ANY WASHERS WHEN BUILDING I TAKE AN OLD RIFLE CASING AND HACK SAW THE BOTTOM OFF WHERE THE CALIBER IS STAMPED AND USE THAT, IF NEEDED I WILL DRILL OUT THE PRIMER HOLE THE DESIRED SIZE WITH A DRILL PRIOR TO HACKING OFF THE BASE OF THE SHELL. SAVES ME MONEY AND IT'S BRASS  : )

THEN I RIVETED MY FLAT BLACK SPRAY PAINTED JAW ON AND ADDED A TAPE PLAYER MOTOR ASSEMBLY TO GIVE IT A COOL MECHANICAL LOOK, THEN AND AN OLD SKS BAONET TO THE FRONT OF THE BASE.

I TOOK SOME MORE OLD .308 CLEANED CASINGS  AND SOME OLD COMPUTER CABLE PARTS TO MAKE DB 15 PIN PLUGS AND USED THE PARTS TO HOLD MY SHEELS TOGETHER (LITTLE BRACKETS/SCREWS) AND ALSO MOUNT THEM TO MY TOY SHOT GUN I SAWED OFF THATS RIVETED TO THE HELMET.

MY NOSE IS A .308 SHELL END RIVETED ON NOT THE HUGE THING MY WIFES SAYS HIS NOSE IS TO BIG.
THE BIG SCREEN IS MY ALIEN MAD DETECTOR, MAGNETIC ANOMALY DETECTOR TO DETECT THREATS AND HOSTILE FORCES FROM AFAR LOL..

THE EARS ARE A TAP HANDLE PAINTED FLAT BLACK AND THE OTHER IS JUST SOME OTHER PARTS FROM MY BOX OF GOODIES, BASICALLY AND OLD R/C HELICOPTER ROTOR PART AND AN OLD WATCH INNER BACKING AND COULPE OTHER LITTLE PARTS.
