So now its nearing autumn in the UK and half the worlds acorn population just landed in my garden. I was out there sweeping the darn things up and i thought there must be something you can make out of these. So i took a pocket full and headed to my ~~command-center~~ room..

After about 5 minutes of drilling and threading i had made this Acorn Bracelet !

Heh, Conkers comes to mind when I saw this.. You crazy Brits! :D
analuisamontanez says: Nov 18, 2012. 7:12 AM
no, no. Here in Britain they are conkers, too - found inside horse chestnuts. These are new acorns, which look pretty much just like conkers.

no, no. Here in Britain they are conkers, too - found inside horse chestnuts. I don't know why the author describes them as acorns - maybe he's confused.

Those are conkers not acorns.
analuisamontanez says: Nov 18, 2012. 7:11 AM
Oh no, they're new acorns. They're really brittle like that - did they already fall off your tree that new?
ninjasamurai says: Nov 13, 2011. 1:13 PM
Great it looks like the worm in there puked or something and when you drilled it out all of the stuff fell out

Epic!!!! :0)

I wish I had a lot of acorns! Our one lone tree doesn't produce many. Probably enough for this kind of project, but I was aiming to make acorn flour. Some people say acorn bread is bland, but I think it is delicious. I just rarely have enough acorns. D<

Anyway, just a thought~

Maybe if you dried the acorns it wouldn't do that. dunno how long you would have to dry them for though...

Interesting. One thing I'd be worried about are little beetle grubs in them. Once when I was little I collected some nice sized acorns in an area forest... some time later I discovered that I had brought unintended guest in with them. I don't remember them having any outward appearance of being spoilt, so it was a bit of a surprise.

Oh dear lol, none have come out of mine :P
formateur says: Oct 7, 2008. 11:36 PM
NIce instructable. When I was young, I made some money selling necklace made the same way. My only advice is to make sure that you use a string that does not rot, because the nut inside will eat it out.

Cool, yea i would suggest the wire

Thanks :P
Grey_Wolfe says: Sep 15, 2008. 10:30 AM
So, have you had any problem with rotting since you made these? On a side note... I wonder if oaks are pro-life or pro-choice. Poor aborted baby oaks. Sniffle. lol :-P
=SMART= (author) says: Sep 15, 2008. 12:40 PM
No no rotting, they just get hard :P I think their pro-choice because they drop their babies so they obviously dont care lol
Grey_Wolfe says: Sep 15, 2008. 10:05 PM
Them hardening is probably a good thing. Makes it a bit less fragile, I'd guess.
treesneedtobehugged says: Sep 15, 2008. 8:36 PM
I tried this with some acorns from another tree other than a oak. Also i don't have a drill and when i used a nail it just cracked. can you try with a nail and see if it still works? great idea chap and if i can get the acorn from not breaking i will make hundreds of these.
Grey_Wolfe says: Sep 15, 2008. 10:27 AM
Stopper is a good idea. Would be kind of a pain to get it nice and tight without. This is the first beading ible that I've seen someone use that on.

Cool! I'm not much on myself wearing bracelets, but I do love me acorns. I'm thinking of making a tassel of sorts for my bookbag. Great job, and as always, great photography!
