Step 1: Download Programs

There are 3 basic video programs you will need to rip and convert DVDs.

DVDShrink is a free DVD ripping tool that will also rip other content including Subtitles, multiple Language tracks, special features etc. You can download it for free here:

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm

SUPER by eRightsoft is a free video converter and pretty well advanced. There many video formats and countless options to choose from but the reason we use it is because SUPER has a preset option for converting videos specifically to Zune WMV format. You can download it here:

http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

Note: The SUPER site is a little hard to navigate so I'll just give a quick description of what to do. On the first page scroll to the very bottom to the section called "Download and make full usage of SUPER for FREE." There's a link that says "Start downloading SUPER," click it.

On the next page, there's some red text in the main body of the page. There's also another link that says "download and use," click it.

On the third page, scroll to the very bottom to the section called "What Are You Waiting For.. Download SUPER it's FREE" then underneath the ads, there's a link. The link says "Download SUPER Setup file." Click it and it will start downloading then install it.

Sometimes it will not show the "Download SUPER Setup file" link because of too much traffic or it's unable to access the mirror. Just refresh the page or return later.

VirtualDub is a free video capturing and processing utility. Download it here:

helo when i try to import the video to vdub, it says that it couldnt locate the decompressor for format "divx" (divx4+)
halp plox!
hello i'm having the same problem, the same error message comes up. Did you find out a way to solve it?

I think you're missing a codec needed to run divx. I would suggest installing Super. This should have the codecs you need. When it's done installing, restart the computer and try again.

I have SUPER and the other 2 programs that you said but the error message says vituralDub couldnt locate decompressor for format 'DIVX' (Divx4+)

what does this mean how can i fix it?? i already has SUPER but i tried restarting it as you suggested but that did nothing.
how can i fix this? do i need to download another program, a more up to date one? please help

You can try Cucusoft Zune Video Converter Suite, this software can rip protected DVD movie and convert all popular video formats to Zune. I always use it to put my videos on Zune, very easy to use and works great for me.

There is such an easier method... You can change a setting in preferences in DVD Shrink so that it doesn't cut it into 1 gig chunks, just untick the box. that says like 2-3 steps then rename the vob file from SAMPLE.VOB to SAMPLE.MPG. the zune plays MPG's right? if the file is too big just adjust it in DVD Shrink that pretty much what it was designed to do.

can a zune go out to a tv threw the 1/8th jack
Yes, there are special zune cable packs you can buy for it; or you may use a normal camera cable but rearrange the cables. I believe, but am not positive that with a normal camera the red is the video and the other two audio. This should work, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

This looks like a good method. You can also look into DVDFab (free) to rip and Handbrake (free) to encode to mulitiple formats. They stopped development on DVDShrink years ago, so it is not up on the latest copy protections.
DVD decoder takes care of protection

does this program have any problems with the audio lagging?

I drag my .VOB files over, but its like it doesn't recognise them. I don't get any errors, it just sits there. Any ideas? I tried the site, but that place is a mess!

Where it says "Drop a valid multimedia file here..." (underneath the output stats) there will usually be a progress bar that shows the status of the conversions. After you press "Encode Active Files," for the first few minutes it may say "Parsing File" or something like that. After that it should start showing a ###,### kb or ### mb to show the size of the converting file. Depending on a few things it should stop at around 200+ MBs for each individual file. Does that help?

I didn't notice it at first, but now I see some grayed out text. It says "an error has occurred. Click here to find out more". But when I click it, it wont bring any thing up. I'm Using Vista, so I'm betting that could be the proboblem. Any way, I found a simular program and got every thing else to work, so I didnt manage to get a DVD on zune so THANKS!

When there is an error, that will turn from grey to red and you can press it for information.
