Introduction: Add a Pocket

How many times have you bought a pair of jogging pants and discover there is no pocket. My husband has a pair that he hates to wear so I decided to add pockets. I made a pattern from another pair of pants. It was so easy I decided to add them to a pair of my pants too. I hope you will give it a try.

Step 1: Making Your Pattern

Find a pair of pants that has pockets you like. Turn the pants wrong side out. Lay them on a piece of paper and trace around the pocket. Don't forget to account for the seams. Now you need some fabric. It doesn't take a lot of fabric but I like for the fabric to match the color of the pants (or at least close). You want to use thin fabric too because you don't want it to be too bulky.

Step 2: Cut Out Your Pockets

You will need four pieces. Two pieces for each pocket. I folded my material so I cut all four pieces at once.

Now the fun part. You have to take the seams out of the existing pants. Make sure you measure the pockets so you know how much to take out. Don't worry if you take to much you can always sew it back. Be careful taking out the seam you need the extra material for sewing the pockets. This is really the worst part.

Step 3: Get Ready to Sew

Lay the pants right side up and lay a pocket piece on each side. Pin each side. Sew down the seam line on each side. Now turn it wrong side out and sew around the pocket. Now do the same on the other side.

Step 4: Pants With Pockets

Now you have added pockets to your pants.
