Adding Hard Drive Space to your Laptop

I'm sure that many of your laptops are full or nearly full and would like an easy way to add more hard drive space to your computer. I used to keep a USB drive at home for backups until recently, when I was forced to transfer over all of my music because my laptop's hard drive was full. This is when I decided to velcro my USB drive to the top of my laptop so I could travel without having to worry about a dangling hard drive.

I went ballistic on my g4, soldered in a usb hub, added bluetooth dongle, wireless mouse dongle and after i removed my optical drive installed a 500gb external in its place. My leopard installation files were backed up and bootable from the internal hd with a modded version of leopard to stop the minimum requirements. All in all after everything i still could not watch a single youtube video. FML

I just made this, but didn't include the sweet cable holder, I didn't have enough Velcro left over. Love the ible, just what I was looking for.

Man this is great, really...... a variation of this could be, 1) Run a long USB extension cable into your pants. 2) Velcro the usb HDD around your ankle. 3) Impress your friends when you pull a usb cable our through your zipper, and instantly give them the software, music and video they so desire. When done. 4) spool the usb cable up into your pants and do up the zipper.

Cool! And then you could velcro your laptop to your chest for when you enter a wifi area.

no better you build some of those wifi antenas and tape it to the back so its parabolic angle is over your head , now that would be epic and enter running to the airport shouting yihad!

Good idea, I 'm going to do this. My external Hdrive is much bigger than the internal one and will boot without the internal one in there but I got put off by having always to have it all seperate. Not anymore though!

that isnt really an instructable, anyone with common sense could think of it.

It is. Some of the stuff on here features nearly impossible things and explains them, while others simply provide cool ideas. This is one of those ideas.

Not me, I have an IQ equivalent to that of the 3M Velcro pads featured. Great idea!

GreenDay in reply to bleachworthyDec 26, 2008. 4:11 PM
You have an IQ equivalent to Velcro? That's not something I'd admit to...
zomfibame in reply to GreenDayFeb 20, 2009. 7:27 PM
ehh, Velcro is not the dumbest thing I've come in contact with.... then again I do work in retail; so I come in contact with all sorts of dumb, all day long. I will give you that most people are basically smart and nice, but every day I deal with at least one or two who prolly' wish they were as smart as Velcro. ... So, I give Much respect to all the people as smart as Velcro.
