Airsofting

Someone else posted something like this,but it didn't cover everything.This will not cover the basics, such as shooting, for that, see the other instructable.

Step 1: Aquire the stuff

To airsoft,you need a gun,I recomend Desert Eagle for beginners then you can move into the more fancy guns or vice-verca.You dont need any armor(except eyewear)unless you're playing aginst people with high fps(feet per second)guns,OUCH!

You also need a fort for two reasons:
(1)If its camo, you can give your enemys a BIG suprise attack

(2)a retreat area. I have a trench in my backyard and its great!I recomend one.

From target shooting with my pellet gun in my backyard: use a paper target for sure, a lead pellet going about 500 fps will NOT leave a noticeable mark on corrugated cardboard from more than about 10 feet. Maybe a little more if you hit perfectly square. An airsoft pellet, therefore, will definitely not mark cardboard. Also, be sure of what is behind your target. You need airpace to allow the airsoft BB to get though, then a soft surface like a dirt hill or a thick blanket over your fence to catch it. Of course, this is if you're practicing in your back yard. If you are on some sort of professional range, they've taken care of it.

Huh, that's funny, I got shot from about 15 feet away with a gun shooting 350fps and it broke skin. I used to hunt squirrels with my daisy 880 using lead pellets shooting not much harder than 500fps. I have shredded pop cans with my airsoft guns. One airsoft bb may not penetrate thick corrugated cardboard, but when you are shooting in bursts, you will punch through.

I'd like to see a video of that. Five layers of corrugated is likely stronger than human flesh, and yet airsoft is meant to leave welts, not wounds.

I'm sorry. I didn't notice you had said corrugated. Although the online definitions oint to it being more resilient, it seems like standard shipping box type stuff. (yes I had to look it up, do with that what you will ). Also, when I first got the gun, my dad was helping me with shooting it and all that ( handung expert in the navy ) and when I bent over to retrieve the ammo, he shot me in the butt. That left not a welt, but literally a crater. It was raised up around where the bb had hit with an indentation in the middle. Also, what size are the pellets. Maybe if they are larger, it disperses the power more evenly, making it harder to go through.

Ouch! I've never managed to get shot with my gun, but I'm not sure I'd want to. It'd probably be quite unpleasant at that sort of range. Private airsoft facilities tend to frown on 400+ fps in all situations except longrange. I suspect thats because of the "crater effect."

Okay...that airsoft gun sucks. And the lead pellet is going 50fps, not 500. either that, or it will not leave a noticable mark because of speed and penetration power. either that, or 5-foot thick cardboard.

My theory is that it is easier for it to richochet than to break the surface of the cardboard, which explains why a square hit penetrates but a slightly skewed one will not. And according to the table that came with the gun listing various pressures to shoot it at and how fast that will propel the pellet, it is roughly 500 fps.

Backyard airsoft is the best kind of airsoft! If there was no backyard airsoft, many of us would not be airsofters. You and your buddies make the rules, take breaks whenever you want between games. Thats why I love backyard airsoft, you make your base however you want. You can use homemade traps, homemade grenades, play bayonet kills if you want, however you wanna play!

Just FYI:

Those long strings of firecrackers have a really fast paper fuse that is pretty much just paper rolled around gunpowder that runs down the center and to each individual firecracker.  DON'T LIGHT THEM INDIVIDUALLY!!!  I did this once.  I lit one on the ground and only had the time to turn around before the paper fuse burned down and the firecracker exploded, sending little bits of shrapnel into the back of my leg.  also, in general, even if you buy firecrackers (or any fireworks, for that matter) that have a slow fuse, don't throw them at people.

Unless you live in a small town and are on very good terms with the cops, don't chance it. People, as evidenced by the Boston bomb scare, are idiots, and will call the cops on you even if it's not technically illegal. A police visit will ruin your day.

no offence sizzle,but I got shot 7 times or so in my bare calf with a 410 FPS ak-47 aeg and it barely left welts, they dont hurt that much. And airsofting with handguns is actually more likely to get u in trouble cause its more plausible for it to be a real gun, than, say, an ak-47. I have a UTG Magnum M24 and it owns. I airsoft in a totally secluded forest.

airsoft extreme IMO is the best... but i only say that cause i can actually walk in the store and test out the guns. airsoft GI sent me a AK that completely fell apart, and i had to superglue it together to keep it together, and their customer service sucked. airsplat sent me a faulty sniper that i had to drill in the barrel to make it shoot straight. airsoftextreme... a little expensive, but all the guns ive tested there shoot great and are nice and solid.

about smoke bombs... DANGEROUS AS H**L!!! I personally was in a war in which someone threw a smoke bomb, and it started a fire that burned about 3000 square feet of land by the time the fire department got there. But if this ever happens to you, stay at the site of the fire, tell the fire fighters the truth, and any other information that you believe might get you in trouble. By doing this you more often than not impress firefighters and they will want to smash your head in a little less.

I do not mean this in a rude way, but it's people like youthat make airsoft a sport tailored to only few people ( relatively ) airsoft has a lower rate of serious injury than golf (then again golfers have a relatively high chance of being struck by lightning ) If you make it dangerous, than it becomes so. Don't use any guns over 600 FPS ( and that is definitely pushing it, most places wont let you go over 350 for close range, 500 at 100 feet. ) and always, always wear goggles rated at over 400 FPS at point blank ( at least ). and you are perfectly safe. If you play in the woods, wear jeans and boots, watch out for snakes, and be prepared for ticks and thorns. However, I suggest you give it a try. start out with guns about 300 FPS. Try going to airsplat.com. They have a limited selectin, but they sell them much cheaper and have a 110% price match guarantee with free shipping on orders over $150.

Im on a local team in michgan, we're called Detroit S.W.A.T like that TV show detroit swat. I'm part of the 4 man assault tam and got my XM8 assault rifle at Gebratar Trade Center. We got this awesome place to play. An old abandoned like, I think Hotel or somtin. Its like 5 stories high and about 35000-40000 Sq ft.kickass playing!!!we got like the best sniper in the county too. L96, and yea dude they hurt like hell!! got it at 7 feet right in my back, bled right through my tee shirt! tough gun! Airsoft Rules and in volves more honesty that paintball!!!!

fps is just like a average rating think of it like that
wats more importiant if you dont want to hurt people is the energy (j). max fps withought bleeding i would say 400 fps above that hurts like hell (i got shot like 15 feet away on my chin with a l96 hurt like a ^%$F%$. anyways fps try to get like 300-380 fps thats decent so they can feel it and they dont get hurt (or aleast pain)

None of those guns are really great, but without gas or battery your options are pretty limited. Try a Super 9 or UTG sniper NEVER by a spring pistol. Just don't.

I reccomend the Palco Firepower Intimidator (it's a 2 in 1, it can shoot either metal or plastic BBs), or the desert eagle. You can start off with a stinger but i don't reccomend it, and if you do, it's a good choice to start off with a p30 instead of a p9. I'm not familiar with the tippman, so I can't reccomend or not.

i jumped the gun, and gota airsoft gun before you responded. i got the stinger p9 and i am vary happy with it for 24 bucks i got the gun, 500 12g bbs, and a holster all in one it has good accuracy at close range 10-20 feet havent gotten a chance to shoot it out side. what i like most about it is that it has a 90 bb reserve in the mag so to load u fill the reserve then pull the little slide thing down and turn it up side down and gravity feeds them into the actual 12 bb loader it loads 5 times faster then my friends glock. the only thing i dont like is that its not 1:1 for weight just size but o well. i have shoot the gun about 1,000 times (my back stop catches the bbs intact so i can just keep reshooting them) and have not had any problems so far.

but thanks for the help i think ill get a desert eagle next (it was $10 more, only came with 100bbs and didnt have a holster)

they could be damaged, and if you fire them again they could burst in the barrel and damage it, making the gun less accurate or un-usable. but every one i know reuses them (including me, but i only shot onesthat dont have any visible imperfections)

it wont burst in the barrel. it will burst when it hits the target. only that is, if you have a gun that goes 300 fps. there is nothing that touches the bb. it is just air pressure. only reuse the ones that arent dirt. i have a sniper. shoots 475 fps. very expensive.

What?! if he meant they're he'd be an idiot. Luckily he's not. And non-blow backs by the laws of physics are stronger then an exact blow back would be, simply because its not releasing the gas to blow back, surprise surprise, so the fact that there are non-blow backs that can hit 300fps isn't at all shocking. Quality I wouldn't be able to trust simply because guns are made non-blow back to curve production cost because they take less mechanics and get more energy from less power so usually they aren't as reliable.

any one know how to ramp up the fps? I have an awsome bolt action sniper-rife with a real sniper scope that you load in shells with the bb in it. Thing is, I baught it when I was a beginner to airsoft and thought that 275 fps was fast. now the guns that I use are almost double that which means the sniper's useless. I want to use it because it's awsome but now it's only good for target shooting because the fps is too slow for anyone to feel it in a war. if you know how to amp up the fps, please tell me. thanks!

seriously, I have 18 working guns. two high powred 350 fps electric machine guns: the Double Eagle M85,and the Stunt Studios SS2 with grenade launcher (my favorite). Four Co2 pisotls, one spring 300 fps pump action shotgun, two high powered spring rifles, One bolt action metal sniper rifle (forget name, Super 9?) with shells, one Co2 metal revolver w/ metal shells (it has a leak though :( ), spring action Berretta,several pistols, and a land mine that sucks. hey, I throw big partys. I even build a cource in the woods next to my house. so yea, your probably not the best.

My most trustworthy sidearm is the Pietro Beretta MOD.92FS-CAL.9 the main weapon that I use is the Double Eagle M85 semi/fully auto machien gun. I have many other guns, at least 20, (I provide most of the guns to my friends during a game). I even have a land mine that has proven to be useless. I live in an area surrounded by woods so I made an airsoft cource consisting of a maze of trails and a wooden base at one end. The cource is called "Hunter's Run" for a reason. The main game type we play out there is called hunters run, where one person is assigned the role of "prey", while everyone else are the "hunters". the prey is sent out into the forist with only a pistol and the magazine in it. after 1 minute passes the hunters enter with any weapon they please and all the ammo they want. The objective: prey wins if he defeats the hunters and loses if the he gets hit. We also play "Ambush". One team is assigned as the ambushers. the other is made of one V.I.P and bodyguards. the objective for the bodyguards is to get the V.I.P from point A to point B in one place, and hold point B for 1 minute. The ambushers cannot let that happen, their objective is to hit the V.I.P. We also play "zombie", "CTF", and "attack and deffend" Just sharin info. you can tell I'm bored can't you.

jungle toy is a great place for airsoft guns, the even have their own practice shooting range(most of them had a range. go to jungletoy.com and get a berreta 93r that uses gas, works crazy good. it has single shot, 3 shot, and machinegun mode(semi-automatic) great practice wepond. And get a ak-47 rifle that uses batterys and the rechargable battery(youll be surprised how much times befor it wears out.(come to think of it, it didnt wear out for wat 6 years now.) or the simmithon wesson gas hand guns are good for practice.All ways buy gas bb guns except rifles and shot guns.

i totally disagree with downgrade and agree with TheNewRommel. sure u can get a TokyoMauri for $300 and cry when it breaks and wish you didnt spend that much on a airsoft gun. although those types of guns are the tightest looking, well-made, and highest performance guns out there for airsoft, there is another way. i got and m14 off of airsplat.com recenctly and its the shi-...its sleek and black, oldstyle, and highly accurate. it goes 300-400 fps (depending on the bb weight). the only downside is that if ur a spring gun hater, u wont like it. im a fan of them because if they're not an inexpensive electric gun it goes 25ft and drops or every 3 or 10 shots goes to the side, i like to hang back and pick off people and rely on accuracy to save me and my team, and love to give welts from close range. THE MOST IMPORTANT FEATURE OF THIS GUN IS THAT IT IS ONL $40!!!

Dude everyone knows palco is the best airsoft ever made! I make these awsome smoke bombs tht r really easy to make. Ill make an instructable for it if u want so when you play u can have a real battle feel to it. Which Desert Eagle? some of the old ones are crappy and only have 240 fps. Now, the new ones have 290 fps-very good. But i can't find any around where i live, so i just got the Tanfoglio Witness 1911, which is almost as good (280 fps). However, with only 12 shots, you will run out quick. I think the best is the Sig Sauer sp2022, an amazing 315 fps with 24 shots!

I havent tried it out yet but I was thinking about trying to drill really small holes in it and then shave of the tip of matches and puting them in the holes then light a match and if all goes right the stuff from the match should light on fire but pump it to hard because it will get to mutch oxygen. sorry if it doesn't work i'll keep thinking of ideas for you P.S nirvana rocks.

You might want to add that you shouldn't take your guns out in public. Airsoft guns look just like the real ones, and therefore should be treated as such. also, make sure that there wont be any other people where you happen to be playing. I used to play in my back yard, and my parents would watch, but I made them wear shop glasses when they were outside. It's a simple rule, makes you look better in their eyes (shows that you're thinking ahead), and makes sure that a stray bb won't blind your parents (or the neighbors) of course, your best bet is not to play in areas where this could be a problem.
