Alcohol Stove

Alcohol stoves aka aluminum can stoves aka penny stoves aka hobo stoves are very useful little devices that should be part of anyone's survival kit.  Many designs require only two aluminum cans to make and a very limited amount of time and expertise to construct.  You can refine your design, or use the suggestions contained in this guide to tweak your stove and achieve major heat output from a really tiny and inexpensive form factor.  Check out the projects below and get cooking today!

If you happen to be living in Toronto, Nymoc is a great place to buy denatured ethyl alcohol; as well as all sorts of other chemicals.

look for denatured alcohol in any hardware store. if you can't find it, a 70% or higher rubbing alcohol mixture will do just fine.

Use Coleman Fuel, and get twice the results. Made breakfast this morning with outstanding results!

Really? I have always found Coleman fuel (white gas, camp fuel, Naptha) to burn wildly out of control. For the penny stoves that I use, methyl hydrate or denatured alcohol work much better.

I love the simplicity of these stoves. I am a boy scout and use them because of their 0% rate of faliure and how easy they are to make. Iv'e probably made 10 or 20 of them.
