Alice in Wonderland party decorations

Our daughter wanted an Alice in Wonderland party so here are the decorations we made. Butcher paper, cardboard, posterboard, tissue paper, paint, hot glue, and a little fabric go a long way! We also made her Alice costume.

If your looking for tea pots and cups a great place to look is Goodwill. We found some interesting ones there and pretty cheap!

I taped butcher paper to the walls and then painted the flower scenes. I also cut out leaves from cardboard, painted them and hot glued and taped them to the walls. The flowers I used cardboard for the stems, the leaves were posterboard as well as the petals along with tissue paper. I used fishing line to secure those to make them stand up. The mushroom was cardboard with tissue paper glued to it to give it texture. The caterpillar was sewn and stuffed with the face being made with cardboard. Just about everything was made with Cardboard, tissue paper, butcher paper, paint, glue and hot glue.

We bought a paper table cloth in a gold color for the base. I made the top out of cardboard and painted it. The eyes and mouth were made out of posterboard. I used a full piece of posterboard for the top portion of the mouth and a half for the bottom. We cut out a section of the table cloth and slipped the posterboard underneath and taped it to the door. The doorknob was a piece of cardboard we made into a ring, the knob part was a circle that we got wet and kind of molded to resemble the knob. The eyebrows were pieces of cardboard painted black and hot glued on. If you have any other questions let me know! Good luck!

My husband did most of the sewing, (I'm the builder, he is the sewer)BODY: We bought 4 yards of 45" wide fabric, 3 yards for the body and 1 yard for the arms and legs. We bought 3 pairs of gardening gloves and 3 pair of the orange fairy shoes which we found at the Dollar Tree. FACE: carboard, masking tape, posterboard, paper towels and paint.
We folded the 3 yards in half length wise, made a seam all the way up the fabric and then curved the seam at the top so it was like a sock, clipped the curve, turned it right side out then stuffed it. (we used 3 bags of stuffing.) He sewed the end closed. He basically did the same thing for the arms and legs, only we didn't sew them closed at the ends. After they were stuffed we stuffed the gloves and then hot glued them onto the arms as well as the shoes to the legs. For the little tuft at the top of the caterpillar's head I did a loose gather stitch, tied it off and done. I then sewed the arms and legs on.
For the face I drew the basic shape onto cardboard, cut it out. I then drew another shape similar to the shape of the bottom portion of the face but made it about an 1" wider to build up the cheeks and chin to give it dimension. I kind of "molded" it to the base of the face taping it along the edges as I went around. Because it was wider than the base piece as you tape it it starts to stick out which is what gave it the dimension. I cut out the shape I wanted for the mouth then taped paper towels around the bottom of the mouth to make the lip. For the nose I folded up 2 paper towels, taped them up then taped it to the face. The eyes were ovals cut out from a piece of posterboard, the eyelids were made by cutting out a half of an oval and then taped in place so they stuck out to give more dimension. The next step was to paint it. After it was dry I just hot glued it to the body because we were running out of time. It worked and its still intact even with our kids throwing it at each other. The hooka was a piece of green plastic hose we had with a paintbrush stuck in the end for the nozzle. The base of it was a great 70's lamp we found at Goodwill. We just unscrewed the top and stuck the hose on the top. I hoped this helps. My husband and I said we would document the process of whatever we make next so we will actually have instructions. (although we say that after every party we have lol) Let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions.

We tried to cover most of it but ran out of room for a few things we wanted to do but the girls loved it and so did their parents. Thank you for the compliment. Next party we do we are going to try and document the process so we can post instructions and not just pictures.

Thank you! It took about a week, working on it an average of 4 hours a day. Painting the background probably took the longest. I am very lucky to be a stay at home mom and get to work on these things during the day! My husband also helped when he got home so it did take two of us.He made our daughter's Alice costume while I made flowers.
