If I were to build it, I would use full range titanium drivers. The titanium drivers are 1" and they sound like 6"

Nice, but you would have to turn the volume way up unless you wanted to hold this next to your ear, and that could drain your battery. There are a lot of 'ibles describing essentially the same thing, but I think this one describes it the best. +1!

Nice! You can also get one of those mini ipod amps, take it apart, solder on a longer input wire, and put it in your case. Thats what I did; a lil louder than these...

Sorry guys for the misleadtion, (if thats a word). How do you like my title now? Altoids MINI Headphone Amps. If you have read any of my other comments, I have said they are an easy project which take no time at all, but all in the same time you are impressing everyone you know. **I have also said you can switch the headphone speakers with real speakers if you know where to solder the wires, which is pretty slef explanatory. I might even make an instructable on how to do it.**

Sorry, still not there, you made a nice speaker but no Amp at all. As for amplification there is no easier solution as the cmoy or at least one transistor anywhere. You can't compare an engine with a wheel. Anyway I like your wheels. ;)

Have you read every other post that I have posted? I have said it is not intended to be concert loud. Its intended for a nice train ride. Anyway, why are you comparing the CMOY to my project? The CMOY costs twice as much if not more and takes 100 times more the time, patience, and experience. My project is a noob project for those who are not very experienced. In case you have not head the Instructable, in which I know you have not, I have added a portion on attached better speakers in place of the headphone speakers. I also plan on making an Instructable about that once I get y camera fixed. kthnx. -Brennn10

I agree, the instructable is good, but the label might be a little misleading, as there is no amplification going on, just putting headphone speakers in a different orientation.

First of all, take a look at the CMOY Amp. It is complicated for most newbies plus most people do not know where to get the parts for this. Plus it take a ton of time and some knowledge.
My amp= No knowledge at all, simple, and costs 5 bucks. It is an easy design, plus it can be easily modded which I have expressed in my directions by changing the speakers.
So, easy= my amp pretty hard for beginners= cmoy

while being an interesting project it isn't actually an amplifier, merely a pair of headphones made into speakers. if you want a small amp to use with this i would reccomend searching for the cmoy amp design, they are fairly compacts and you could probably fit one in the case there with your speakers.

Thanks everyone. Like I said it doesnt get super loud, but its a fun project to do and you can take it in the car with you or where ever. Also in my instructions you can attach actual surround speakers to it as well.

It's really pretty kool, but i presume it doesn't get very loud. id hook an amp to it! Oh, and it would look cooler if you did the cutting to the cover of the tin... not the nutrition facts! otherwise, pretty good idea!!!!!!!

I am sorry that I did not mention this. The sound, is not the loudest sound you can get from lets say Bose speakers. For these, you must turn your volume all the way up to get the best results. It is music to write a paper too, do homework too, and it is easy to make and it is not intended to be top notch. It is a simple project which you can make in 20 minutes and when you are done, you have some sound in your like.
To Sum things up: This sound is not horrible neither is it amazing. Sound quality is good but the level of sound doesnt go as high as some speakers.
**TIP** If you want better quality and better sound, if you have a soldering iron, and a little knowledge of where to solder and whatnot, you could get rid of the headphone speakers and add speakers that are made for surround sound speakers. Just solder the wires off, throw away the speaker, and attach the wires to the new speaker.
