Angel Book Art : 11 Steps (with Pictures)

Here's a great Christmas idea.

Step 1: Picking Book and Making Wings

Choose a paperback book with 300-350 pages. Rip the front and back cover. Cut out 28-30 sheets with the glued seam holding the pages. These pages are for the wings and are used to hide a nail. Cut the bottom right corner from 1/2" from the bottom left to 2 1/2" of top right. Fold the first half of the pages from left to right in increasing increments of 1/8" and do the same of the last half of the pages from right to left. (hope it makes sense when you see the pictures). I've done it with 8-14 pages on each side.

Step 2: Marking Book

Mark a line through all pages at the top left 3/4 inches from the spine. Mark another line at the lower right about 1-2 inches from the bottom. The top line is important to keep within one inch from the spine (makes for a smaller neck), but the bottom is up to you. The bottom line determines the length of the dress.

Step 3: Cutting the Pages

Because the fold of the pages is greater than midway to the spine, you must cut the top right corner. The best way to measure how much to cut is to make your first fold from the top line to the second line. When folded you'll notice that the tip of the top right corner will extend beyond the spine. With the first page folded, make the cut parallel to the spine. This will help you as you fold all your pages. Unfold the first cut page and cut the rest of the pages all the way through.

Step 4: Folding Pages

If you keep folding the pages, you'll notices that the pages will start to curve along the axis of the spine. This is due to the increased girth of the folds.

Step 5: Choosing the Head

The best place to find these wooded balls is Hobby Lobby. Micheal's has them but they are always, as least the one in my town, sold individually and are more expensive. I buy them for $6-8 dollars for a pack of 4, but I use their %50 off coupon :)

Drill a hole at the bottom and drive a nail through it. Take note of the wood grain, you'll find that at one "side" the lines form a circle or oval. You can use this as the face of the angel.

Step 6:

Hot glue the nail to the spine. Make sure your face is facing forward.

Step 7: Making the Wings

Glue the inside of your wing-pages to the spine of the body of your book .

Step 8: Collar

Choose a ribbon/lace for your collar and glue it around the neck. This is why it's important to keep the top fold-line close to the spine; it makes for a smaller neck.
